W. McDOWELL Broad Top City, Huntingdon Co., Pa. Merchant: W. W. McDowell was born at Midway, Washington Co., Pa., a son of Virgil M. and Annie (Eathorne) McDowell. Both are living at Midway, Washington Co., Pa. The father is retired; has been for eighteen years; was a farmer; also bought and sold coal lands; owned a farm of fifty-four acres. W. W. McDowell began his education at Midway and finished the prescribed course. Has followed clerical work practically all his life since leaving school. During the World War was employed at store at McDonald as clerk. At present is a part owner of the M.S.M. Stores, previously known as the Swan Stores, taken over 6th of May, and located at Broad Top City, Three Springs and Mapleton Depot, Pa. Both Mr. McDowell, his wife and son are members of the Presbyterian church and Sunday school at McDonald, Washington Co., Pa. He is a Mason, Cromwell Lodge, Orbisonia, Pa., No. 572; Harrisburg Consistory; a Shriner, Altoona, Pa. A Republican. Has two brothers; John M., married to Mary Haddon, McDonald, Pa.; Clarence, of Mapleton Depot, Pa., and one brother, Charles, deceased. Sisters are: Rose E., married to Frank Brumbaugh, Midway, Washington Co., Pa.; Cora E., married to James Russell, Midway, Pa. W. W. McDowell was married to Mae J. Riffle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Riffle, of Uhrichville, Ohio. They have one son, Floyd Maynard, a graduate of the Langley High School, Corliss Station, Pittsburgh, Pa. Baseball is his sport. Since Mr. McDowell has taken a part interest in this mercantile establishment has injected new ideas and management. Note: The 1910 Midway, Washington County census lists William W. (27) and May J. (27) McDowell.
