ROY EDWARD MCELWAIN Huntingdon, Pa. Instructor: The McElwains have long held a prominent place in Huntingdon County, in Oneida Township. Prof. Roy Edward McElwain was born in Huntingdon, Pa., in May, 1891. His early schooling was obtained at the Centre Union school in Oneida Township. A son of Griffith L. McElwain, who died October 25, 1916, and Mary Alice (Rupert) McElwain, who died May 9, 1928. They resided in Huntingdon county all their lives; American born. Prof. Roy Edward McElwain attended Juniata College in 1908-09-10 and in 1925-26 and 1928; graduated at Lancaster Business College in 1913. Has taught school; at Cold Spring, 1908-09; Centre Union, 1909-10; Centre, 1924-25; Smithfield Township, 1925-26-27-28 and 1929. At present is Principal of Smithfield Schools. During 1911-12 and 1913 was doing clerical work for the P.R.R. Company. Is Secretary of School Board, Oneida Township; also has served on election board. Is a Republican. Belongs to St. James Lutheran Church, Huntingdon, Pa., as also his wife. Has one brother, S. E. McElwain, Huntingdon, Pa. Prof. Roy McElwain was married to Olive G. Miller, of Shade Gap, Pa. They have one daughter, Dorothy, ten years of age. Baseball is his sport. A very active man is Prof. McElwain.
