ROY MORTON, B. F. Petersburg, Pa. State Forester: Born at Pleasant Ridge, Fulton Co., Pa., August 22, 1885. Early schooling at same place. Son of Peter Morton, retired, aged eighty-one years, and of Louise (Clevenger) Morton, both living at McConnellsburg, Pa.; she was the daughter of Adam Clevenger. They owned a farm of 150 acres. T. Roy Morton is a graduate of he McConnellsburg High School and also received the degree of B.F. from the Pennsylvania State Forest School, Mont Alto, Pa., in 1908. He taught school in Dublin township. Was first appointed District Forester at Petersburg, Pa., Sept. 1, 1908, known as the Logan District. He hs the care and keeping of 600,000 acres in Huntingdon, Blair and Centre counties, and the records from this district are less than the average for fire destruction. There are four steel towers, three sixty-foot steel and one forty-seven foot steel. Has charge of seven forest rangers. One assistant district forester. Each ranger has a crew, when wanted. In the spring he uses as high as sixty men. He has served on the election board, school board, and as township auditor. A steward in the Methodist church; wife also a member. Belongs to the Masonic Fraternity, Mount Moriah, No. 300: Harrisburg Consistory; a Shriner, Jaffa Temple, Altoona, Pa. A member of the following organizations: Pennsylvania Forester's Association, National Geographical Society, Society of American Forestry and Academy of Science. He has six brothers: Earl B., married to Edith McEldowney of McConnellsburg, Pa., Department of Forests and Waters, Harrisburg, Pa.; William Don, married to Carrie Hill, Sioux City, Iowa, General Agent Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company; George, McConnellsburg, Pa., a farmer on the home farm; James Newton, Bureau of Land Game Commission, Harrisburg, Pa., married to Ethel Gardner; McKinley C., married to Ethel Washabaugh, Hagerstown, Md., and with Central Chemical Co.; Peter North, is married to Mary Fisher, dealer in meats and provisions, McConnellsburg, Pa. Three sisters: Bessie L, married to Lemuel Hendershot, Clear Spring, Md., farmers; Blanche, married to Harry E. Grissinger, McConnellsburg, Pa., meats and provisions; Joan, married to Dr. Frank Guillard, Saxton, Pa. T. Roy Morton was married to Julia Withington, of Petersburg, Pa., a daughter of Frances E. and Rebecca Withington. They have three daughters: Jean E., a Sophomore at the Petersburg Vocational Training School; Marjorie Blanche, a Freshman at the same school, and Joan, three years of age. Hunting and fishing are his sports.
