Clerk: Born at Petersburg, Pa., July 6, 1897, a son of Moore Nelson, who was a farmer. He owned a farm of 183 acres, and died in 1915 at the age of fifty-three years and one day. He married Nina Cresswell, who now resides on a farm in Logan Township. John Nelson was born and reared on the farm. He was with the State Forestry Department for nine months; with Pierce, Butler and Pierce Radiator Works, Huntingdon, Pa., for nine months; was a farmer. For the past three years has had a clerical position with Gregory & Kocher, general merchandise, Petersburg, Pa. He is a World War veteran; volunteered at Altoona, Pa., June 18, 1918; sent to Columbus, Ohio, barracks; was there for four weeks; then to Del Rio, Texas; was assigned to 307th Cavalry Division; Went to Fort Worth, Texas, where a camp of 25,000 men were assembled; there for three months; was discharged on December 3, 1918, after which he returned to the farm. He is a member of the Cloyd K. Davis American Legion Post, No. 150. Cloyd K. Davis was killed in France, and was buried in the cemetery at Neff's Mills, Huntingdon Co., Pa. Mr. Nelson is a member of the Presbyterian Church; his wife also. He is a trustee. He served on the election board in Logan township as judge and inspector. Has five brothers: Ernest, at Rothernay, Montana; Frank, San Francisco, Calif.; Paul, Marion and Charles are at home. Charles is a Senior at the Petersburg Vocational School. Six sisters: Mary, Lewistown, Pa.; Maud, married to Philip Spurling, a bookkeeper at Hamilton, Bermuda Islands; Eva, Atlantic City, N.J.; Ruth, married to Robert Kocher; Nellie and Helen at home. John Nelson was married to Jenette Riley, daughter of David G. and June Riley; one daughter to this union, Erma, seven years of age, born September 7, 1922.
