NOBLE Mount Union, Pa. Merchant: Lewis G. Noble was born at Orbisonia, Pa., a son of Calvin Noble; he was a bricklayer and stonemason, now deceased; he married Jane Carothers; she is deceased. Lewis G. Noble, the subject of this sketch, was for a time in the employ of the East Broad Top R.R., and in 1901 he moved to Mount Union, Pa., where he followed the carpenter trade with the chair factory and also the Harbison-Walker Refractories Co., and on January 1, 1908, he opened to the public a grocery store at the corner of Division and Water streets. He remained there for a period of time, after which he moved to the corner of Division and Market streets, where he resides and also is engaged in business, carrying a line of groceries and confectionery. He has been engaged in business for over twenty years. He formerly lived at Three Springs and was burgess of that community. During the World War he was engaged in business. The members of the family are Methodists. He was previously on the official board of the church. He prefers the Republican party. His brothers are: Luther, at Orbisonia, a bricklayer and stonemason; James, of Orbisonia, with the E.B.T.R.R.; he married Nell Weller; Calvin, at Altoona, Pa.; with the P.R.R.; he married Rebecca Goodman; William, at Orbisonia, with the E.B.T.R.R.; he is single; Harry, at Turtle Creek, Pa., with the P.R.R.; he is a foreman; George and Elmer are deceased. Alfred died at the age of ten years; a sister died in infancy. Lewis G. Noble married Clemma Heck; she is the daughter of Daniel and Rachel Heck, of Three Springs, Pa.; she is an accomplished musician and elocutionist, a graduate of Dickinson Seminary, Williamsport, Pa.; she has given many public recitals; she is also an instructor of the piano, and has many pupils at present. They have two daughters, Vesta attended the Mount Union High School; also took up music at Juniata College; she is married to Gilbert Gibboney, a clerk in the P.R.R. office at Tyrone, where they reside. Bertha is a graduate of the Mount Union grade schools, and also West Chester Normal; she is teaching at Olean, N.Y. The Nobles have one son, Harold. He is a graduate of the Mount Union High School, after which he accepted a position with the General Refractories Company as an electrician, followed by government work during the World War. He is a musician; began at the age of twelve years, under the guidance of Prof. Peer Buys, who was instructor for the Mount Union Band. He was an apt pupil, specializing on the clarinet, oboe and saxophone. He has played for broadcasting over the radio with prominent orchestras, such as Whiteman's, Denny's , and Meyer Davis, at Cleveland, Ohio; Wiley's Orchestra, and then to Benson's Orchestra for five years; at present is in orchestral work in New York City. During the holidays was at his home and at the public schools he gave a public rendition of selections, which were greatly appreciated by the student body and the public.
