Norris Machine and Welding Shop: William Herman Norris was born September 26, 1880, in Penn Township, Huntingdon County, Pa. At Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, he began his educational career, after which the family removed to Mount Union, Pa., when he again entered the Grade School of Mount Union, Pa.; continued on through the Junior year, and finding that his interests in life would be better served along manual lines. He was a blacksmith for the Harbison-Walker Refractories Company of Mount Union, and served this company for five years; severed his relations with this company and accepted a position with the Penna. R.R. at Altoona, Pa.; with that company for six years; then engaged in business for himself at Mount Union, Pa., establishing a machine, repair and welding business, in which he has been very successful. He is a son of Louis S. Norris, a former blacksmith and wagon maker of Mount Union, Pa. and of Ellen Norris. Both are living at Mount Union, Pa. William Herman Norris is a Methodist. He has served four years on the City Council of Mount Union, Pa., being an efficient official. Is a Democrat in politics and strong in his convictions. Belongs to Junior Order United American Mechanics, No. 373, Mt. Union, Pa. Two brothers: Charles E. and Cloyd; four sisters: Blanche Crum, Gertrude Bowman, Mary Smith, and Maud Houchin, all living. Herman Norris was married to Hattie G. Cassady, at Mount Union, Pa. The following children were born to this union: Martha, married to Charles Bard, Sproul, Pa.; Loretta, married to Jack Rutherford, Greensburg, Pa.; Lena, married to Marshall Rank, Mount Union, Pa.; Leroy was married to Miss Ethel Snow on Feb. 7, 1930; Arley, Lewis, eleven, and Ona, nine years. Baseball is his sport when time and season permit.
