Foreman, Penna. R.R. Co.: Born at Petersburg, Pa., January 21, 1868. A son of John Port, who was a foreman for the Penna. R.R. for thirty years; died in 1900, aged fifty-four years. He married Emma Turman, now living at Petersburg, Pa. John Port, Jr., received his education at the country schools, and later on worked for a year at farming; at present he is a foreman for the Penna. R.R., having charge of track between Petersburg and Alexandria. For twenty-eight years he has been with this company. A faithful employee, thoroughly conversant with this line of work. Both he and his wife are Lutheran adherents. He served for one term as Councilman, Petersburg, Pa. Is a Democrat in politics. Has one brother, Sydney, married to Greta Houser, Saxton, Pa. Three sisters: Blanche, married to James Myton; Gertrude, married to David Harshbarger, Alexandria, Pa.; Edna, married to Charles Aunchbaugh, Altoona, Pa., with Penna. R.R. Three sisters are deceased: Della, Maggie and Edith. He was married twice, the first time to Martha Wright, a daughter of John and Rachel Wright. One son to this union, Walter, married to Mertie Howell, Petersburg, Pa., with Penn Central Light & Power Company, Warrior Ridge power plant; re-married to Margaret Metz. Mr. Port has gained the respect and esteem of his fellowmen, and is interested in the community's affairs.
