PORT Petersburg, Pa. Stationary Engineer: A son of John Port, a foreman, Penna. R.R. His grandfather also a foreman, Penna. R.R., for thirty years. The mother of Walter W. Port is deceased. The subject of this sketch was born at Petersburg, Pa., June 22, 1895. His early schooling was at Petersburg; stopped going to school in Senior year. Has been with the Penn Central Light and Power Company, at their Warrior Ridge plant, which has been generating electricity by steam and water power for a period of seventeen years; eight years as power plant repairman and general utility man; has been employed nine years as stationary engineer; began with the company November 12, 1912. Belongs to the Lutheran Church; wife also, at Petersburg, Pa. He is at present inspector on election board; has been since 1928. During the World War was with the Penn Central Light and Power Company as engineer. He is a member of the I.O.O.F., No. 1162, Petersburg, Pa. A Democrat in politics. He was married to Mertie Howell, a daughter of Aaron and Anna Howell; both are living at Petersburg, Pa. Mr. Howell is a carpenter and building contractor; has a saw mill. Mr. and Mrs. Port have three sons, Harold W., twelve years; John A., nine years, and Harvey R., one year. Three daughters, Anna Martha, seven years; Mary Luella, six years, and Rachel Louise, four years. Mr. Port has been a faithful employee of the company, and is a pleasant and agreeable person.
