E. PYLE Mount Union, Pa. Memorials: In recording the achievements and activities of our prominent and leading citizens of Huntingdon County, mention is made of M. E. Pyle, a quiet, deep-thinking man. One whose interests are connected with the community's growth and one whose parentage is an honor. Only recently, January 30, 1929, at his home in Mount Union, was celebrated his father and mother's 60th wedding anniversary, and mention is made of John W. Pyle and Elizabeth Caroline (Brandt) Pyle. They were married at the Dry Run parsonage, January 26, 1869, by the Rev. W. A. West. His son, the subject of this sketch, M. E. Pyle, was born April 23, 1877, in Shirley Township, Huntingdon County. He attended the township schools of that period, and assisted at farm work; later on attended the Dry Run Academy, from 1890 to 1895. From 1901 to 1909 was in partnership with his father at Dry Run, in the monument business, and then to Orbisonia, from 1909 to 1911, after which he bought out the marble and granite business of the last Charles Stratford. At present Mr. Pyle has on display designs of all kinds and a beautiful assortment to select from. He has served on Borough Council; Judge of Election, Second Ward, two terms; also as Assessor in Path Valley, one term. In 1914 sold the homestead, known as the Brandt farm, in Germany Valley. Belongs to I.O.O.F., No. 1057, Pittsburgh, Pa.; also Encampment No. 194. Is a Democrat. One brother, A. O. Pyle, Real Estate Operator, Pittsburgh, Pa. Three sisters: Seneath E., married to S. S. Wilson, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Roxie A., married to George T. Kling, Dry Run, Pa., and Bessie E., married to A. W. Olson (he is deceased), Pittsburgh, Pa. Mr. Pyle was married to Jennie T. Kling, of Dry Run, Pa. The children are Kenneth B., at home; Anna Marie, in training for nurse at Homeopathic Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Hazel, student at Penn State; Isabel, Ruth, Esther, and John W., ten years of age. Mr. Pyle and wife belong to the Presbyterian church and are good citizens and a credit to any community. Note: Milton (53), Tereza Jane (50), Kenneth (25), Isabel (16), Ruth (14), Esther (12), and John (10) Pyle are listed in the 1930 Mount Union, Huntingdon County census.
