RANKIN Orbisonia, Pa. Rankin Service and Garage: He was born at Orbisonia, Pa. A son of J. W. Rankin, who has been with the East Broad Top Railroad Company since it was built. He is an engineer. He married Ida Burkett, who died in 1927, at the age of sixty-eight. Earl C. Rankin received his education at the Orbisonia schools, and was a machinist for the East Broad Top railroad Company for sixteen years, and for the last six months has been proprietor of the Rankin Service Station and Garage. He succeeded Ephraim Hurwitz, and has built up a large and fast-increasing business. He is a Methodist; his wife also. During the World War was with the East Broad Top Railroad. He is a member of the I.O.O.F. of Orbisonia, Pa., and a member of the A.A.A. He has two brothers: N. W., of Coraopolis, Pa, a school teacher; he married Viola Winterstein; C. G., of Washington, D.C., a machinist in the U.S. Government Service; he was married to Edna Wear. One sister, Florence, married to Harry Stake, Superintendent of the Brick Works at Sproul, Pa. Earl C. Rankin was married to Nora Wilson, a daughter of Ex-Sheriff Harvey and Jane Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Rankin have ten children: Florence, a Senior at the Orbisonia High School; Gertrude, first year Orbisonia High School; Elizabeth, five years; Jane, two years; Charlotte, about eighteen months; Earl, twelve years; James, nine years; Zane, seven years; Vinton, six years; and Ned, three years. Mr. Rankin is a first-class machinist and highly respected. Since taking over this service station, he has given complete service to the tourist as well as local trade.
