Manager of A. & P. Store: He was born at Six Mile Run, in Bedford Co., Pa., July 21, 1898, the year of the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, and at Defiance, Pa., he began his school career. His father, James Rankin, was a pioneer woodsman all his life. He married Katherine Whited, of Six Mile Run; both American born, and still living. For two years John Rankin was in the High School at Defiance, Pa.; for a number of years he was occupied in running a dairy at Six Mile Run; also at selling automobiles. The following October will find him with four years' service as manager for the Atlantic and Pacific Stores. They conduct a chain of stores, in which this link in the chain is prominently located. He has three brothers: Arch, at Six Mile Run; Marshall, at Defiance; Edgar, at Six Mile Run. Four sisters: Lillian, at Duquesne, Pa.; Florence, of Six Mile Run; Grace, teaching at Defiance, Pa., and Myrtle, teaching school at Six Mile Run. He was married to Grace May Baumgardner, of Hopewell, Pa. One daughter, Anna Catharine, two years of age, born June 2, 1927. Mr. Rankin has served the company with much credit and has increased its business at this location.
