RORER Shirley Township, Huntingdon Co., Pa. Instructor: For seventeen years Charles L. Rorer has imparted knowledge to the coming generation. He was born in Shirley Township, December 26, 1879, and began his school career at the Shirley Township Schools. A son of David and Mary (Himes) Rorer. They reside in Shirley Township, on a farm; has been a farmer and teamster all his life, and also a lifelong resident of the county. Charles L. Rorer attended the Rock Hill Normal School for five terms; also the Mount Union Normal Summer School. He has taught at Allenport, Centre, Shirleysburg, Hill Valley, Valley Point, and Aughwick, all in Huntingdon County, Pa. He has followed carpentering. Has been Auditor for Shirley Township for twenty years, and for eighteen years has been clerk on Mount Union District election board. He is a member of the Jr. O.U.A.M.; also State Teachers Association. A Democrat. Has brothers: Clyde, a mail clerk, Mount Union, Pa.; John, a farmer, Shirley Township. Two brothers deceased, Samuel and Isaac. Two sisters, Laura Reck and Lulu Parsons; one sister deceased. Charles L. Rorer was married to Flossie Reck, a daughter of D. A. and Mary Reck. The following are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rorer: Mary, married to Melvin James, Harrisburg; Stella, married to Charles Cox, Shirley Township; David, at home; Bernardine, a Sophomore, Mount Union High School; Harvey, fourteen years of age, a Freshman, Mount Union High School; Jean, ten years, attending township school. Mr. Rorer is a home-loving, good-natured man, and has the respect of his fellow men, and as a teacher and instructor has been eminently successful in this county.
