Carpenter: Born at Bolivar, Pa., August 20, 1899. A son of George Ross, who died suddenly in 1925, at the age of sixty-four years. He married Anna Pierce, now residing at Alexandria, Pa. Robert Ross received his education at Mapleton, Pa.; was for a period of time with the Harbison-Walker Refractories Company; with General Refractories Company for two years; State Highway Department; the Union Postal Telegraph Company for one year. Was a farmer when he volunteered his services for the World War. he enlisted as a volunteer at Huntingdon, Pa.; was sent to Camp Jackson, South Carolina; he was there for one year and five days was first in 39th Heavy Artillery Brigade; there for four months; was put on special duty at officers' quarters for two months; was transferred to Company B, Heavy Artillery; there during duration of war, discharged as private of the first class, Camp Jackson, South Carolina. He is a member of the P.O.S. of A., No. 59, and P.O. of A., No. 171, Jr. O.U.A.M., Mount Union, Pa.; William Weand Commandery, of Huntingdon, Pa. he has five brothers: John, married to Elsie Price Alexandria, Pa.; Fred, married to Ruth Beatty, Mount Union, Pa.; Albert, a World War veteran, married to Mildred Hemptull; Homer, married to Mary Price, Mount Union; Collins, married to Viola McMullen, Cedar Crest, Mifflin County, Pa. Two sisters: Mary, married to L. C. McNeal, Tyrone, Pa.; Margaret, married to Vernon Snyder, Shaversville, Pa.
