BROWN, of the firm of Philip Brown's Sons, Huntingdon, Pa., was born July 28, 1868, and educated in the public schools. At the early age of ten years he displayed his enterprise and business ability as a newsboy, and has the distinction of having been the first to introduce into the borough the New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburg and Harrisburg papers. At the same time he learned printing in the office of the Local News, and afterwards worked as a journeyman in the different newspaper offices of Huntingdon. In 1887, he sold out his newspaper business, and went to Des Moines, Iowa, where he resided about three months, working on the Des Moines State Register. He then returned to Huntingdon and continued to work as a journeyman compositor until 1889, when he became a partner in the present business. During the year 1890, Mr. Brown was engaged in the Huntingdon post-office. At present he represents Speyer Bros., of New York, in cabinet hardware. He is a member of Juniata Lodge, No. 117, I.O.O.F., and of Standing Stone Lodge, No. 176, K. of G.E., Huntingdon; also of General Gordon Lodge, No. 96, K. of P., borough of Luzerne, Pa. His political views are Democratic. John A. Brown was married in Hollidaysburg, Pa., January 1, 1890, to Idella, daughter of David Miles and Phoebe (Powell) Corbett. They have had one child, Hermina Paulina, born April 14, 1891, died May 4, 1893.
