SCHIRM Alexandria, Pa. Foreman: He was born in Canoe Valley, Huntingdon County, Pa., November 21, 1889. A son of Hayes Schirm, a farmer in Hartslog Valley. His wife was Jennie Goodman; she is deceased; died in 1925 at the age of fifty-two years. Frank G. Schirm received his early schooling in Hartslog Valley, at what was known as the Valley School. He has been a lumberman and farmer. He was a butcher at Alexandria for six years; at present is a foreman at the Stowe-Fuller Refractories Company, Alexandria, Pa. Both he and his grandfather and grandmother came from Germany. Frank G. Schirm served on the Mexican border for eight months, in Co. F, Huntingdon, Pa.; recalled to the colors for World War service; went to Camp Hancock, Georgia; assigned to 103rd Engineers, 28th Division (Iron Division), at Camp Hancock, Georgia, for eight months; left Camp Hancock for Camp Mills, Long Island, New York; embarked on transport (Metaganna), which vessel was sunk a short time afterwards by a submarine. He arrived at Liverpool, England, after being on water for fourteen days; thence to Dover, England; there for three days; crossed English Channel for Calais, France; there ten days; was in English camp with English instructors; went to an instruction camp for ten days; entrained for Chateau Thierry sector; in action; was gassed; there for one month; left for Argonne Forest; again in action for more than one month; went to Thiacourt sector; in action, when armistice was signed, at this point; left Thiacourt for Hindecourt, France; there for two months; left for Le Mons, a rest camp and railroad concentration point; thence to St. Naisaire for embarkation; left on transport (Finland); arrived at Hoboken, New Jersey; Camp Dix, New Jersey, for discharge, with a total service of three years, including Mexican border service; went in as private; he served as butcher and cook. He is a member of the Reformed Church, Alexandria, Pa.; his wife also. he was steward and is at the present time a teacher in the Sunday School. He belons to the P.O.S. of A. and William P. Spyker American Legion Post, No. 520, both orders of Alexandria, Pa. A Republican in politics. He has eight brothers: George, McConnellstown, Pa.; John, Alexandria, Pa.; David, Alexandria, Pa.; Louis, Alexandria, Pa..; Hayes, Hartslog Valley; Wilson, Alexandria, Pa.; Theodore, Alexandria, Pa.; Walter, Hartslog Valley; George, Wilson and Theodore are married. He has one sister, Mrs. Norman Huyett, Porter township one sister is deceased, Ella Schirm, who died at the age of twenty-two years. Frank G. Schirm was married to Mae States, a daughter of Dowling and Emma States; the father is living, but the mother is deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Schirm have one daughter, Sarah, nine years of age, in a grade school.
