Tonsorial Artist: Herman Schmittle, the subject of this sketch, was born near Nossville, Huntingdon Co., Pa., August 22, 1883. A son of Henry Schmittle, deceased who died Feb. 13, 1925. His wife before marriage was Annie Jones; she resides at Mount Union, Pa. Herman Schmittle followed up various employments; was employed at chair factory in Mount Union; helped to excavate for buildings for the Harbison-Walker Refractories Co.; also followed up lathing for three years. Herman Schmittle early in life learned the barbering business under the directing hand of Clarence B. Roberts. On Nov. 14, 1907, Mr. Schmittle took over the Roberts stand and has continued carrying on this important vocation ever since, he being an expert in all that goes to make up this business. For twenty-three years he has cut, trimmed, shaved, massaged, shampooed, etc. In March, 1929, he removed to he Beers Block, it being more centrally located, with an up to date, fully equipped shop, including electric equipment. Ladies' and childrens' wants are carefully looked after as well as those of the masculine sex. Herman Schmittle was married to Edith Mundorf by Rev. Wood, of Hollidaysburg, Pa. They have one son, Herman Ross Schmittle, aged thirteen years. He attends the eighth grade school. Both Mr. and Mrs. Schmittle are Methodists. he at present is a steward. His brother are Quay, Altoona, Pa; is proprietor of a dental laboratory; Lemayne, Mount Union, Pa. One sister, Keturah, married to Harry Smith, Philadelphia, Pa. The following are deceased: Rhoda, Ethel and May; two died in infancy.
