Foreman: Born at Meadow Gap, Huntingdon County, Pa., October 2, 1888. Parentage, Scotch-Irish. Early schooling at Meadow Gap. His father, W.R. Shore; mother, Ida (Cramer) Shore, living at Mount Union, Pa. Ancestry dates back over 200 years. At present foreman with General Refractories Co., for past three years; eleven with United States Refractories Company, Mount Union, Pa. Has served all told twenty-two years as foreman in this class of manufacture; was with Carnegie Steel Company, at Homestead Works, for a period of four years, as pipe fitter; during World War with U.S. Refractories Co., Mount Union, Pa., and Aetna Explosives Company, Mount Union, Pa., for a period of eighteen months. Took correspondence course at State College, in Foremanship; also the Seth E. Siders course in Foremanship later on a general course in Foremanship, Business and Accountancy with the Alexander Hamilton Institute. He is a Methodist and member of the Sunday School. Belongs to the I.O.O.F., No. 677, Mount Union, Pa. Non-partisan in politics. Delights in out-door sports. Has four brothers: D. Blaine, Mount Union, Pa.; Melvin, New York; Ivan, Mount Union; and Paul, Mount Union, Pa. One sister, Elsie, married to John Ross. Mr. Shore was married to Anna R. Taylor; children all at home: James W.; Mildred, fourteen; Catharine, twelve years; Minerva, nine years; Kenneth, six years, and Frederick, three years. Janet, born in 1929; two children died in infancy. James Shore is a practical brickman, making a general study of its manufacture, and his years of employment attest to this fact.
