Upholsterer: Going back to the ancestry of Mike Sier, one goes a long way. His grandfather and grandmother were killed in the Boxer uprising at Delhi, India; they owned several hotels. Delhi, India, was the scene of Rudyard Kipling's prose and poetry. The father of Mike Sier was Frederick Sier; hew was in the English Navy. Coming to this country he was engaged at the Pennsylvania Industrial Reformatory as chef. He died in 1914, at the age of fifty-nine years. Mike Sier was born at Huntingdon, Pa., April 23, 1897. In the Fourth Ward schools of Huntingdon, Pa., he received his first schooling. He early in life was apprenticed to the upholstering business, under the tutelage of Bob Heeney, an expert in his line. In 1913 Mr. Sier took over the business of repairing chairs, sofas, etc.; also top and seat work for autos, seat covers, etc. He is a member of the United Brethren Church ; his wife also. He served in that mighty conflict the World War; enlisted at Philadelphia, Pa.; was assigned to Great Lakes Naval Training Station at Chicago, Ill. It was there that John Philip Sousa, the celebrated band leader, held forth. Mike Sier served there as an electrician for a period of one year; was discharged at Great Lakes Chicago, Ill. He is a member of the American Legion and also the 40 and 8. In politics a Republican. He has two sisters: Mattie, married to Edward Eveland, Tamanend, with Lehigh Valley R.R.; Ann, at Plainfield, N.J., a school teacher. He was married to Zada English, a daughter of Bentley and Ida English, both living at Huntingdon, Pa.
