Miller: Every town, village and hamlet can boast of a Smith. But this article has to do with Alvin Guy Smith, of Mount Union, Pa. He was born in Tell Township, Huntingdon County, Pa., on May 22, 1888, and at the Gray School, Tell Township, he first began his educational career. Born and raised on a farm; his father was Aldridge French Smith, and his mother Annie (Parsons) Smith, still living at Shade Valley, on a farm. For seven years he conducted a coal business at Mount Union, Pa. In 1920 he bought the Rummel property, known as the Rummel's Mill, and has been manufacturing the famous Supreme family flour, and manufacturing feeds of all kinds; has all the latest machinery installed. He is a Methodist, and teacher of an adult class. His wife is a member of the same church, and interested in Sunday School work. During the World War was in the coal business. He has one brother, Boaz Obed, an ordained minister, Presbyterian Church, Petersburg, Pa. William is deceased. Galent B. is married to Mable Shoop. Alvin Guy Smith was married to Florence May Flickinger, of Loysville, Perry County, Pa., a daughter of J.W. and Laura Flickinger, of Perry County, Pa. Children are: James A., a Freshman, in Mount Union High School; Alesta, twelve years, and Regina, eight years. Mr. Smith has built up and maintains a large business, covering a large territory, including a coal business which is extensive.
