Smith Motor Company: Clair David Smith is the son of Charles E. and Laura (Stubbs) Smith, and in Shirleysburg, August 26, 1893, he was born. The Shirleysburg grade schools claimed him, and here he received his early education. After doing various kinds of employment, and at various places, he entered the employ of the Shenango Tin Plate Co., in 1917, as a tinner; at this occupation he continued for a period of seven years, then returned to the place of his boyhood and opened a garage, known as the Smith Motor Company, in 1924. All lines of this business are carried on, repairing all types of cars, and carrying a line of accessories, oils, etc. An emergency truck is at the tourist's call in case of breakdown; also sells the Chrysler automobile, a standard make. Has one brother, William, of Shirleysburg. Three sisters: Mrs. Charles Higgins, Shirleysburg; Mrs. Beulah Moore, Shirleysburg, and Mrs. Arthur Rutter, Orbisonia. He is a Republican in politics. He was married to May Catharine Whitzel. One son, Dalmas Eugene, aged eleven. He belongs to the Huntingdon County Motor Club and the Automobile Dealers' Association. Delights in ball playing. Mr. Smith is an expert mechanic and always busy, catering to the home as well as to the tourists' trade.
