Retired: Clark Myton Smith has lived to see this section of the county develop into an agricultural section, with wide acres cleared by the woodsmen and its soil tilled by eager hands. He is thoroughly acquainted with every nook and corner of this section. All his life has he farmed; knows the requirements of the soil; a good judge of livestock and in every phase of this industry he has been successful. He was born April 11, 1862, on a farm. All his life has been spent in Miller township. At Smith's school he learned the benefits of an education. Back in the '60s education was thorough, while the facilities were crude. John Smith was his father, who died March 19, 1872, when the subject of this sketch was but ten years of age. His mother, Priscilla Smith, died Dec. 7, 1885. Clark Smith has always taken an interest in political affairs. He has served on the school and election board, and has held all township offices. He is a pronounced Republican and adheres to its policies. His brothers and sisters are all deceased. For seventeen years of his life he was a rural mail carrier for he United States government, on Route No. 2, out of Huntingdon, Pa. He owns a farm. He was married to Alice Hall, of Oneida township, in December, 1891. They have one daughter, who is married, Mrs. Beulah M. Shires; she is a school teacher at Tyrone, Pa. Clark Myton Smith represents that type of men who have done things, and today finds him retired after years of constructive work, setting the example that hard work brings its rewards.
