A. SMITH Petersburg, Pa. Foreman, State Highway Department: Born near Cassville, Huntingdon County, Pa., August 10, 1876. A son of R. P. Smith, a farmer, who owned a farm of 165 acres, and died in 1914, at the age of sixty-one years, and of Amanda Fisher, who died in 1924, at the age of seventy years. E. A. Smith commenced to learn the mysteries of an education at the Washington School at Smith Valley, in Cass Township, Huntingdon County, Pa. He also attended a summer school at Cassville, and was a farmer in Shaver's Creek Valley for seventeen years; in winter months was engaged at lumbering. For the past two years he has been a foreman for the State Highway Department. He has served as School Director of Barree Township, and Supervisor in Shaver's Creek Valley; Secretary of the School Board for twelve years, and also was on election board. A member of the Methodist Church; his wife also. He belongs to the Patrons of Husbandry, No. 353, Shaver's Creek Grange. A Republican. He has two brothers: C. B., a farmer and thresherman, Shaver's Creek Valley; D. C., a farmer, Saltillo, Pa. E. A. Smith was married to Ella Wright, a daughter of J. Frank and Lydia Wright. They have three sons: Chester, married to Nora Garver, Pittsburgh, Pa. He is a rollerman in a steel mill; Robert, married to Pauline Hoffman, Neff's Mills; Ebert, married to Gertrude Lang, Pittsburgh, Pa. Four daughters: Edna, married to Harry Grossman, farmers, Petersburg, Pa. She is a graduate of Huntingdon High School, and spent two years at Juniata College; was also a teacher several years; Lillian, married to S. W. Lightner, a foreman, with Carnegie Steel Company, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Viola, at High School, Petersburg, Pa., a Junior; Phyllis, twelve years of age, at school. Note: Elmer A. Smith, 55, Ella M. Smith, 56, Viola B. Smith, 15, and Phyllis M. Smith, 12, are listed in the 1930 Petersburg, Huntingdon County census.
