SNYDER Mapleton, Pa. Merchant: Was born at Orbisonia, Pa., February 3, 1930. A son of George Snyder, resident of Orbisonia, Pa. (died 1928), and of Elizabeth (Bollinger) Snyder, formerly of Orbisonia, Pa., died (1914). Alfred B. Snyder obtained his early school training at Orbisonia, and early learned the value of an education. Was employed later on in life as a brakeman with the Penna. R.R. lines west of Pittsburgh. For five years he followed this occupation, and for three years was associated with the Atlantic and Pacific Stores at Cleveland, Ohio. He then came to Mapleton Depot, Huntingdon County, Pa, and engaged in the general merchandising business, carrying a line of furniture, floor coverings, clothing, ladies', gents' and youths' furnishings, radios, etc. He is a member of the American Legion, Coher-De Mario Post, No. 322, and the I.O.O.F., No. 468, Mapleton; served in the World War, in Machine Gun Company, No. 314, Battalion, Co. A., Camp Lee; went to Bordeaux, France; then to Calais; to British base; to Somme sector, into action; fourteen months' service under Captain Whittle. Entered as private, and came out a corporal; discharged at Camp Dix. he was married to Olla Morrell, of Broad Top City, Huntingdon County, Pa. Trap shooting and hunting are his favorite sports. Mr. Snyder has built up a successful business, is well known and well liked by the citizens of Mapleton.
