SNYDER Huntingdon, Pa. Ice Cream Manufacturer and Restaurant: Born at Black Lick, Indiana County, Pa. A son of Orlando Carlisle Snyder, who was born in Indiana County, Pa., October 28, 1846. He is a son of John D. and Ann Eliza (Shearer) Snyder. Orlando Carlisle Snyder was Chief Engineer of the Pumping Station at Huntingdon, Pa. He was with the water service for Huntingdon Borough for many years. He was a machinist and engineer. He was a Civil War veteran; enlisted in 1863, in Battery G., First Pennsylvania Light Artillery, and served until mustered out in Philadelphia, in July, 1865; he died in 1922. He was married to Mary Caldwell on July 23, 1866. She was born June 17, 1849; died in 1929. Frank H. Snyder was born March 24, 1879; at the Huntingdon grade schools he received his education. For six years he was engaged in the coal business at Huntingdon, Pa., and for four years was a foreman for the Mt. Union Refractories Co. In 1920 he established a restaurant near the corner of Thirteenth and Mifflin Streets, Huntingdon, Pa. From the very inception of this business he has been successful. In 1920 he introduced to the public Snyder's ice cream; from the beginning it has found much favor and is in demand over a large section. It is of a superior quality. He is a member of the J.O.U.A.M., No. 449; the P.O.S. of A., Camp 321; Knights of Pythias, No. 321, all of Huntingdon, Pa. He has one brother, Vaughn, born September 13, 1886. Three sisters: Minnie, born September 26, 1869; Cora, born September 24, 1877. Frank H. Snyder was married to Bessie Locke, of Huntingdon, Pa. One son, Paul O., married to Emma Wright, Huntingdon, Pa. He assists his father in business. Thelma F., married to Carey David, of Huntingdon, Pa. Mr. Snyder, through a constant desire to cater to the wants of the public, has built up a steady, increasing business.
