Postmaster: Robert Von Stein Snyder was born at Clearville, Pa., March 1, 1904. He began his early schooling in the town of his birth. A son of Edgar V. Snyder, living at Clearville, Bedford Co., Pa., a lumberman who owns a mill; also a farm. His mother was Maude Von Stein, who died in 1921, aged forty-six years; Irish-German descent. Robert Snyder graduated at Juniata College, Academy course, in 1924. Attended Shippensburg State Normal, in 1928. Principal of Woodvale consolidated schools in 1928 In 1925 and 1926 took summer course at Juniata College. Taught school for two years, Woodvale school. One year teacher at Clearville, Bedford County. Was truant officer for one year; succeeded Guy Locke as postmaster, June 14, 1929, under Hoover administration. A member of the Methodist Episcopal church; wife also. A teacher in the Sunday School; secretary, treasurer and trustee in church; was clerk in 1926, of election board. Three sisters: Gladys, married to George Grubb, Clearville, Pa.; Maud and Helen, at home, in High School at Everett, Pa. Four brothers: Carl D., married to Mattie Browning, Hopwood, Pa.; Richard C., Hubert I., and Wendell J., at home. He married Thelma McGahey, daughter of J.E. and Rose Edwards McGahey. Two daughters: Betty Lou, three years; Marion, born Dec. 5, 1928. Mr. Snyder, in connection with being postmaster, conducts a rental library, also carries a line of confections, ice cream, etc. Has been enabled to build up a large business with the public, and the public places confidence in him.
