Retired Farmer: Harry Speck was born in Penn township, June 4, 1862, on a farm, a son of Abraham Speck, who was also a farmer. He owned a farm in Brady township; spent his whole life in Huntingdon County; he died in 1900, at the advanced age of eighty-one years; he married Ellen Thompson, who preceded him to the grave in 1877, at the age of fifty- six years. Harry Speck attended the schools of Mill Creek. His life has been spent in farming, he being a practical farmer. He moved to Henderson township in 1901; he has two tracts of land, one of 200 acres, which is farmed by his son. The other is sub-divided in building lots. These lots are splendidly located along the William Penn Highway, and are available for building purposes; they are sold for cash or on the installment plan; these constitute 110 acres, and are located west of Mill Creek. Mr. Speck takes an interest in public affairs. He was a tax collector in Brady township, and an Auditor in Henderson township; he also served on the election board in Henderson and Brady townships. He is a Democrat as regards politics; in church matters, a Lutheran; he is a trustee in the church; his wife also is a Lutheran. He was married to Margaret Fultz, of Menno township, Mifflin County,. She is a daughter of Abraham and Mary Fultz. Abraham Fultz discovered Fultz wheat, which has become a standard wheat and well known. He died in 1903, at the age of eighty-three years, the mother dying in 1868 at the age of forty-seven years. Their sons and daughters are as follows: Clair J. is a farmer on his father's farm; he was married to Myrna Gorsuch, a daughter of Isaac and Anna Gorsuch; they have one son, Robert, twelve years of age; one daughter, Ruth Marie, six years of age; she has mastered the second reader, although only her first year at school; Verdon M. is another son of the Specks; he is a foreman for the Sims Construction Co. at Oil City. He was married to Martha Hawn; they have two sons, Glenn, thirteen years; Leon, ten years; seven daughters: Lacea, a school teacher at Three Springs, Pa.; Marcella, Maynes Dorothy, Bessie, Ortha and Leonore. A third son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Speck is Burke, who is an assistant foreman for the Penna R.R.; he was married to Margaretta Hawn; they have two sons, Harry and Burke, Jr.; four daughters, Maxine, Elizabeth Gloeanna, and Margaret. Of the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Speck are Dona, married to Fred Nowark; he is an engineer on the Sunbury division of the Penna. R.R.; they have one son, Frederick, aged six years; Ruby, a daughter of the Specks is married to Chester Sims, of Mill Creek; he is a steam shovel engineer; their sons and daughters are: Margaret, attending High School, Mt. Union, Pa.; Harry, fourteen years of age; Kenneth, twelve years of age; Lena, eleven years; Paul and Pauline are naturally of the same age, that of eight years; all are attending school. Harry Speck has one brother deceased, A.E.; he died at the age of seventy-one years; he was married to Emma Goodman; his sisters living are Lettie, married to Edward McLaughlin; they reside at Mill Creek, Pa.; Mattie, married to Corcelius Riddle, Ashland, Ohio. The following sisters are deceased; Mary died at the age of seventy-eighty years; she was married to Samuel Wagner; Rachel Speck died at the age of seventy-eight years; Annie died at the age of nineteen years, and Lydia departed this life at the tender age of five years. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Speck reside west of Mill Creek, Pa. They have a beautiful home, all conveniences, and lead a happy, contented life.
