Postmaster: Was born at Three Springs, Huntingdon County, Pa., June 27, 1871. A son of Benedict T. Stevens and Mary (Heeter) Stevens. The father of John Adams was born February 20, 1838, on the old homestead at Three Springs. He enlisted in Co. B. 110th Penna. Vol. Inf., for three years; re-enlisted in February, 1864, in 22nd Penna. Cavalry, Co. H. Fought at Winchester, Fisher's Hill and Cedar Creek; in the last named engagement Mr. Stevens" horse was shot under him and he was sent to the rear while Sheridan rode up on his famous Black Charger. He died in 1916. His wife died in 1922; she was the daughter of Ex- Associate Judge Heeter, of Huntingdon County, Pa. John Adams Stevens, the subject of this sketch, attended one term at Lock Haven Normal. Owns a farm; clerked for his father in store; appointed postmaster October 1, 1896, under McKinley administration; second appointment under Harding, and third appointment under Coolidge; has served thirty- three years as postmaster; has served on school board, election board, and on city council, for six years. Is a Republican. Has one sister, Edwina B. teaching at Lititz, Pa. Three brothers died in infancy, as did also two sisters. He was married to Mary Shue. Children are: Ida A., married to James Boyer, Shirleysburg, with E.B.T.R.R.; Mary R., married to McDowell Houck, York, Pa.; Mildred W., married to J. Alloway, Hustontown, Pa.; Nellie E., at home, assistant to her father in postoffice; Floretta, at home; Bernice, at home, at High School; Norman L., married to Nora Senft; remarried to Lillian Parsons, Osceola Mills, Pa, manager of Atlantic and Pacific Store; Spencer, at home, with Highway Department; Thaddeus is deceased. Long service as postmaster has made Mr. Stevens proficient.
