RALPH CRAMER STEVENS, D.D.S. Orbisonia, Pa. Dentist: Dr. Ralph Cramer Stevens was born at Rockhill, Huntingdon County, Pa., October 26, 1888. A son of Joseph Stevens, who was for twenty-five years a foreman and twenty-five years a master carpenter, who had charge of maintenance of way of the complete system of the East Broad Top Railroad; he was born June 15, 1848; his father was David Stevens. Joseph Stevens was married to Izilla Wagner; she was born December 15, 1851, and was married in 1874; she was a native of Springfield township, her father was Abram Wagner, of Springfield township, Huntingdon County, Pa. The parentage is of Scotch-Irish descent. Dr. Stevens attended the Rock Hill graded schools. He graduated at the Emlenton High School after a four year term. During 1908 and 1909 he took a course at Juniata College, after which he took special work at Grove City College in 1911. He entered Central University of Kentucky, receiving the degree of D.D.S. in 1915. He began the practice of his profession in! 1916 at Orbisonia, Pa, and has continuously practiced for thirteen years. Previous to his college career, Dr. Stevens was employed as postal clerk for five months; was also with the East Broad Top R.R. in a clerical capacity, general utility man, storehouse, etc. He has served on school board for twelve years, as president of the board. During the World War was in the Dental Reserve Corps, commissioned as First Lieutenant at Fort Slocum for duration of war. He received a memorial for his services from the Preparedness League of American Dentists, signed by Dr. R. Hammil D. Swing, Director of Pennsylvania. The Doctor is a Methodist; his wife also. He belongs to the Masonic Fraternity, No. 572, Orbisonia, Pa., Cromwell Lodge; also the I.O.O.F. A Republican in politics. He has one brother, Taylor A., Altoona, Pa., and one sister, Maude Blaine Leffler, also of Altoona, Pa. Dr. Stevens was married to Ella S. Carothers, a daughter of O.C. and Sarah Brodbeck Carothers, both residing at Orbisonia. Dr. and Mrs. Stevens have three daughters: Eleanor, ten years; Maxine, eight; Sarah Jane, one year. Two sons, Joseph O., seven, and Ralph Taylor, five. The Doctor prefers golf, and is a member of the Juniata Country Club of Mount Union, Pa. He owns his home, which was built according to his own ideas; he has a well equipped office with all the latest and best in dental equipment. On the upper story of his dwelling is a beautiful den, neatly arranged; here is found the skill of the taxidermist; also an arsenal of arms and fishing equipment and several spinning wheels, reminding one of colonial days. He has in his possession the first Colt revolver ever made, cap and ball design; a saddle bag used by a county surveyor in 1855; a tallow dip candle which belongs to the owners of the Orbisonia tenant house, the first settlers of Orbisonia; and then the pay bag, a relic of the old canal, of Capt. Wm. Houser, who plied between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. In the center a large fireplace, and all in all a beautiful and cheerful roomy place. Dr. Stevens has met with an abundance of success. He is a pleasant and prominent citizen of Orbisonia, Pa.
