STOUFFER Huntingdon, Pa. Flour and Feed Merchant: Edgar J. Stouffer was born at Aughwick Mills, Huntingdon County, Pa., August 22, 1882, on a farm; he is a son of Joshua Stouffer, whose father, George Stouffer, was a Civil War veteran. Joshua Stouffer followed the milling business; was for years a miller at Aughwick Mills, after which he moved to Huntingdon, Pa., and became a miller for the Fisher Milling Co., remaining for many years. After the demolition of the mill he started in business where the Huntingdon Wholesale Grocery building now stands. In 1912 he and his only son Edgar bought the present location at 828 Washington street from the Helfright estate and proceeded in the flour and feed business. They succeeded in building up through strict attention to business, and a desire to carry in stock that which their patrons demanded, a large business. The father died January 7, 1927, at the age of seventy-four years. He married Adaline Kennedy, a daughter of Joshua Kennedy, who was Civil War veteran. She died on March 21, 1925, at the age of seventy-two years. Edgar Stouffer, his son, continues to conduct this business. He received his education at the Huntingdon grade schools; he continued on and graduated in the class of 1898; his education has stood him in good stead. He has nine sisters, as follows: Florence, married to Alex. Nevell, with the C. & N.W.R.R., Chicago, Ill.; Effie, married to H.B. Brenneman, who operates a bus line from Huntingdon to Water Street, Pa.; operates two busses. Belle is married to Edward Jefferson, dealer in automobiles, Chicago, Ill.; Ruth is married to Clyde Neff, a foreman with the Westinghouse Air Brake Co., Pittsburgh, Pa.; Blanche is married to L.A. Port, Tyrone, Pa.; Bessie is married to Frank Bagshaw, Johnstown, Pa.; Pauline resides at Huntingdon, Pa.; she married John Fisher; he is deceased; Hilda is married to Fred Mosser, a mechanic for the Penna R.R., Huntingdon, Pa.; Jessie is deceased, having died at the age of twenty-one years,. Mr. Stouffer and his wife belong to the Fifteenth Street Methodist Church. He is a member of the I.O.O.F., Knights of Pythias, and P.O.S. of A., No. 346, all of Huntingdon, Pa. He is strong in the belief of the Republican party. He is interested in civic affairs, being at present a Councilman of the Third Ward; he served on term on the school board, and is a judge of election. Edgar J. Stouffer was married to Viola Lewis, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Lewis, of Tyrone, Pa.; both are deceased. They have one son, Fred, married to Alvena Waite; he is with the Penn Central Light and Power Co., of Altoona, Pa., in the purchasing department. He is a graduate of the Huntingdon High School, class of 1921, and of Gettysburg College, class of 1926. Mr and Mrs. Stouffer have two daughters. Helen graduated from the Huntingdon High School, class of 1922; she is with the Huntingdon Bank Book Co.; Betty Ruth is a freshman at the Huntingdon High School. Mr. Stouffer is a type of man much to the be desired in any community, one who is always ready to assist in the growth and well being of Huntingdon.
