WAKEFIELD Shirley Township, Huntingdon Co., Pa. Farmer: Ralph R. Wakefield was born in Shirley township, March 7, 1895; was born on a farm. A son of Eli Wakefield, who died May 11, 1929. He was a farmer all his life; he was married to Elizabeth Gumbert, who now resides in Germany Valley. Ralph R. Wakefield received his education in the schools of Shirley township; has been a farmer a good part of his life; for a period of time followed up telegraph and telephone work; for ten years has been engaged at farming. He is a World War veteran. He enlisted at Huntingdon, Pa.; was sent to Pittsburgh University; took up training along mechanical lines for use in warfare; he was there for two months; was sent to Camp Jackson, Jacksonville, Florida; there for three weeks; 425 men were sent from this camp to Camp Merritt, N.J., at embarkation point; left on (Martha Washington); was two weeks en-route; landed at Brest, France; went to Jez, a concentration camp;; from there to air depot; was there for six months; was in advance section at this point when armistice was signed; went to Coblenz, Germany; was in army of occupation; went to Brest, France; came back on (Imperator) a German interned vessel; was one week coming over; landed at Hoboken, New Jersey, September 12, 1919; discharged at Camp Dix, New Jersey with a service of fifteen months; was a Corporal in Germany; at Coblenz was assigned to 334th Supply Company. Mr. and Mrs. Wakefield are members of the Church of the Brethren, Germany Valley. He belongs to the Simpson-Hunt Post, American Legion, Mount Union, Pa. A Republican. He was a candidate for Director of the Poor. He ran a high score for the first time at the bat in the Republican political arena. He has two brothers: Samuel, married to Eva Taylor; they reside at Cleveland, Ohio; Jesse, married to Mildred Shue, Altoona, Pa. His sisters are: Myrtle, married to Robert Jackson, Huntingdon, Pa.; Annie, married to Orie Bard, Cygnet, Ohio; Fannie, Columbus, Ohio; Rebecca, married to Ed Hileman, Meadville, Pal.; Grace, married to Paul Kurtz, Lewistown, P a.; Ralph W. Wakefield was married to Willia Lane, a daughter of William and Annie Lane; the father is deceased; the mother is living. Mr. and Mrs. Wakefield have two sons: Robert, Jr., eight years, born April 15, 1921; Richard, seven years, born December 13, 1922. Two daughters: Dorothy, four years, born July 1, 1925; Helen, born August 15, 1929.
