N. HAYES WALKER Shirleysburg, Pa. Farmer: One who had made a complete study of farming in all its branches, and all that it includes, the raising and caring of stock, sowing, rotation of crops, fruit culture, the plowing and preparation for crops, etc., is the above named gentleman. Mr. Walker has been a farmer all his life, and a lifelong resident of this county. He was born in Shirleysburg, Huntingdon Co., Pa., Sept. 29, 1895. Attended the Shirley township schools; took a short course at Penna. State College. Hayes Walker's father, Winfield A. Walker, previously owned this farm. Winfield Walker died April 19, 1919; the mother, Margaret E. (Devor) Walker, died February 24, 1923. The farm then came into the possession of Hayes Walker. He has 47 acres; also another farm with 172 acres, in Love's Valley. He specializes in fruit and dairy products and has been very successful. Mr. Walker belongs to the Presbyterian church of Shirleysburg, Pa., his wife favoring the United Brethren church of Orbisonia, Pa. He belongs to the I.O.O.F.; is a Progressive in politics. One brother, John B. Walker, Altoona, Pa. One sister, Mrs. Mary L. Nelson, Shirleysburg, Pa. Mr. Walker was married to Mabel C. Bollinger, Sept. 22, 1928, at Harrisonville, Pa.; he resides one-tenth of a mile from Shirleysburg, Pa., on the main highway. Mr. Walker is a practical farmer and very industrious, with years of experience and a thorough knowledge of farming, which has brought him an abundance of success. Note: Listed as Hayes I. Walker, 34, and Mabel C. Walker, 25, in the 1930 Shirley Township, Huntingdon County census.
