Farmer: Born at James Creek P.O., or better known as Marklesburg, Pa., August 23, 1895. A son of William G. Weller, retired, living at Marklesburg, Pa.; he was for a time postmaster; he married Mattie Hetrick; died in 1927, at the age of fifty-six years. William Ralph Weller attended the Marklesburg schools. He was for two years with the Huntingdon Specialty Co.; was employed at stone quarries at McConnellstown; was for three years with the Goodrich Rubber Co., at Akron, Ohio; also with the State Highway Department; today is a farmer. He is tax collector for Marklesburg Borough, serving a four-year term; was clerk on election board at Marklesburg, Pa. He is a World War veteran. Enlisted at Akron, Ohio, a volunteer in Marine Corps, 84th Co., 6th Regt. 2nd Division; went to Paris Island, South Carolina; there for two months, training; left for Quantico. Va.; to Brooklyn, N.Y.; went aboard the (Von Steuben); arrived at Brest, France; was eight days on water; arrived at distribution camp; joined Second Division in Champagne District; went to Argonne Forest; was gassed; in action for one week; had measles and was sent to hospital; went to camp near Barly Duc; armistice signed when he was in hospital, after which he was sent to Germany for guard duty; at Coblenz, Germany, were the headquarters. He was in hospital at Coblenz, Germany. After returning to the United States was in Brooklyn Naval Hospital; also in Naval Hospital at Ward Island, N.Y.; discharged at Quantico, Va; service of fifteen months. He belongs to the I.O.O.F., Huntingdon, Pa.; P.O.S. of A., Marklesburg, Pa. One sister, Ruth, South Huntingdon, Pa. William Ralph Weller was married to Grace Riley, daughter of John and Anna Riley, living at Marklesburg, Pa. Three sons: John, eight; Robert, six; Max, three. Two daughters, Betty, born Jan. 29, 1928; Marie, born December 11, 1929.
