WELLS Huntingdon, Pa. Department of Health: Born in Philadelphia, Pa., April 26, 1896. A son of Edwin C. Wells (deceased), a civil engineer and railroad contractor, and Oneta Akers Wells, now residing in Huntingdon. Frederic D. Wells received his preliminary education in the public schools of Huntingdon, graduating in 1915. He afterwards attended Juniata and Penna. State College, until the declaration of war in 1917. After the war he was employed by Pittsburgh contracting firms in an engineering capacity; returning to Huntingdon, was with the Raystown Water Power Co. as engineer. At present is with the Pennsylvania Department of Health; has been for five years. He is a World War veteran; entered the U.S. service in May, 1917; was stationed at Camp Crane, Allentown, Pa., with Section 580, U.S. Army Ambulance Service, for six months. His section left New York for overseas on Troop Ship Cunard Liner (Carmania); was fifteen days en-route, landing at Liverpool, England; crossed Channel to La Harve, France. His section was sworn into French service at Versailles; left there for the front with 71st French Division; later his section was transferred to the 19th French Division, one of France's crack divisions, with which he remained until he returned to the United States. He saw action in five major operations, Champagne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, Oisne-Aisne, Meuse- Argonne, and defensive sector. He was citied for bravery and awarded the French Croix de Guerre with silver star. Was discharged at Camp Dix, N.J., May 29, 1919. He belongs to Frank P. Hommon Post, No. 24, American Legion; Voiture No. 820, 40 and 8, and Huntingdon Fire Company No. 1. In 1922 he was united in marriage to Mary Evans, youngest daughter of Joseph E. and Anna Walters Evans, Huntingdon. They have one son, Frederic Evans Wells, born July 29, 1925. They are members of the Abbey Reformed church.
