W. WIBLE Mount Union, Pa. Meats and Provision: The subject of this sketch, L. W. Wible, was born in Springfield Township, Huntingdon County, Pa., on a farm, Feb. 2, 1875. He is a son of David M. Wible; they were farmers in Springfield Township, Huntingdon County, Pa.; he owned three farms; he was a thrifty, industrious farmer; he died in 1915 at the age of seventy- three years; he married Annie Elizabeth Kelly; she died in 1926 at the age of eighty-two years; they were early settlers of Springfield township; as pioneers they endured many hardships, but by a desire to overcome obstacles they left a name of posterity that will endure. L. W. Wible attended the Madden school, which has turned out many exceptionally good men, who have gone into different avenues of life, where they have succeeded. He left the farm in 1900; was at the mines at Robertsdale as an engineer and fireman; then was engaged in the meat business at Altoona, Pa. He came to Mount Union in November, 1904, and took over the Fields Meat Market; he was also engaged in the meat business in the Beers building, and in 1915 located at his present location on Pennsylvania Avenue; he sells all kinds of meats, both native and dressed; also provisions of all kinds, with a free delivery service, catering to a large trade, which is drawn from all over this section. Mr. Wible was auditor in Carbon township, and in the Second Ward of Mount Union the voters selected him as Councilman. He is Methodist, on the official board; his wife also is a member of the same church; he is steadfast in his devotion to the Republican party; he is a member of the P.O.S. of A., Camp 346, Mount Union, Pa.; also the I.O.O.F., Mount Union, Pa. The following are his brothers: O. L. Wible, a farmer; J. K., a farmer, Springfield township; R. D. is a blacksmith at Waterfall, Pa. His sisters are: Cora B., married to Loraine Madden; they reside near Hustontown, Pa.; Naomi is married to Scott Benson, of Cromwell township. L. W. Wible was married to Myra S. Cowan; she is a daughter of John and Catharine Cowan; they were farmers, near Burnt Cabins, Huntingdon Co., Pa.; they both are deceased. The children of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Wible are: Lloyd, who was appointed Councilman of the First Ward; he was with the Dave Saxe clothing emporium, and also with Sam Dollinger, also in the clothing business, and for several years he conducted a billiard parlor in the Shapiro building; he married Bernice Addis; they have one son, Lloyd, Jr.; Olive is a daughter of the Wibles; she was married to Raymond Hack, of Mapleton Depot they have two daughters, Dorothy and Louise; Mabel, another daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wible, is a graduate nurse of the Altoona Mercy Hospital; Hazel is at home; she is with the Murphy Co., in a clerical position; she graduated from the Mount Union High School, Class of 1927; Esther is a Senior at the Mount Union High School; she is a graduate, class of 1930. Mr. L. W. Wible is a foremost business man, is dependable and reliable. Note: Levi W. Grimes, 2, and Anne Grimes, 28, are listed in the 1880 Springfield Township, Huntingdon County census.
