WILEY Mount Union, Pa. Retired: Born on farm at Reed's Gap, Juniata Co., Pa., February 10, 1870. Early education at Reed's Gap. Father, James Wiley, farmer and merchant, at Valley Point and Neelyton, Huntingdon Co., Pa., now deceased; died in 1918, aged eighty years. The mother, Sarah (Millhouse) Wiley, died in 1918, aged eighty years. The father was of Scotch-Irish, and the mother of German descent. J. K. Wiley attended McCullough's Mills school in Juniata County, Pa. To-day is retired, living at Mount Union, Pa., in a beautiful reinforced stucco house, neatly designed and arranged. Has had thirty years' experience in business, and also as a lumberman; has farmed; followed buying an selling of farms; had at one time four saw mills cutting; looked after four farms; also mercantile business, coal business, etc. This for one man to accomplish means activity. Belongs to the Methodist church; a trustee; was chairman on building committee of new church, and engaged in all activities of the church. Was County Commissioner one term; Sealer of Weights and Measures for four years. Appointed postmaster under President Wilson's second term; served five years. Established free mail delivery system for Mount Union, Pa. Water Commissioner of Mount Union borough, now serving fourth term; Director of First National Bank, Mount Union, Pa.; Director of Building and Loan Association, Mount Union, Pa.; Director of Country Club, Mount Union, one of the incorporators; Director Chamber of Commerce; Member of Mount Union Club. Was enrolling agent of the United States Public Service Reserve, an appointment from Secretary of Labor William B. Wilson. Mr. Wiley is a Democrat, and strong in the party's belief. Has one brother, Charles L., Ex-Commissioner of Huntingdon County, now of Lewistown, Pa. One sister, Mrs. J. L. Morgan, of Neelyton, Huntingdon Co., Pa. Mr. Wiley was married to Ella M. Shoop, of Nossville, Huntingdon Co., Pa. Two sons: Oscar W., Newport, Perry County; Chester, at home. His children are James K., Jr., and Chester, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Wiley have also two daughters: Edith, married to Alfred Jeffries, deceased; remarried to Harvey Hicks; Estella, recently married to Frederick Hile. Mr. Wiley has had a strenuous and active career.
