McAlevy's Fort, Pa. County Superintendent of Schools: To be at the head of the educational system, requires one who can measure up to the standards required. Prof. Milton Bruce Wright has these attainments, and exercises good judgment. The supervising of so many schools in Huntingdon County is no small task. As County Superintendent of Schools he has endeavored to put the schools on a higher level and has succeeded in no small way. Prof. Wright was born in Cass township, October 28, 1873, and in Cass township began his school career that has led him to the highest position the county can bestow along educational lines. His father was Caleb Greenland Wright, a Civil War veteran; his mother was Catharine Dell of Union township; she taught school during the Civil War. Prof. Milton Bruce Wright has taught school for twenty-nine years, all in Huntingdon County, Pa. Was High School Principal for eighteen years; at present is County Superintendent of Schools, assisted by Mr. Frank Magill, of Huntingdon, Pa. In 1898 Juniata College conferred upon him the degree of B.E., and M.E. in 1900, and in 1907 enrolled at Juniata College. This speaks volumes of praise for his Alma Mater, and then in 1908 he enrolled at he University of Michigan. He is a member of the Lutheran Church, McAlevy's Fort, Huntingdon County; Vice-President Penna. Sate Adult Bible Class Federation, Huntingdon County Branch, and for twenty-three years a Sunday School Superintendent. During the World War was Chairman of Red Cross activities; Captain Liberty loan drives; Governor Brumbaugh appointed him Chairman of Vigilance Committee, Jackson township. Belongs to P.O.S. of A., Huntingdon, Pa.; Chaplain, Patrons of Husbandry, Huntingdon County Pomona Grange. Has one brother, Horace Lyman Wright, a farmer, Cass township; one sister, Della Hyssong, Huntingdon, Pa. Two sisters deceased, Luenda and Mary Esther. He was married to Amelia Hearst, of McAlevy's Fort, Pa. An active man and thoroughly trained in educational work. At an election of the School Directors of Huntingdon County, March 8, 1930, he was succeeded by Prof. J.H. Neff, of Alexandria, Pa. His administration has been conducive to the betterment of our school system. He has seen fourteen new buildings constructed in the following districts: Alexandria-Porter; Clay, three; Cromwell, two; Jackson; Mount Union; Petersburg-Logan; Saltillo; Shirley, two; Warriorsmark; Wood., with additions and remodelings in Birmingham, Broad Top City, Carbon, Coalmont, Dudley, Franklin, Miller, Orbisonia, and other places. Percentage of attendance increased, work improved in Primary grades; introduction and use of standardized grades; High School Principals' Association formed for mutual benefit; organization of Local Branch of State Education Association; Parent-Teacher Associations increased from one to eleven; eight Parent-Teacher Associations identified with the State and National Association; employment of Music Supervisors, and many other achievements which come under his successful administration.
