Several problems were encountered in transcribing this census record: First, the census taker gave first initials instead of names in almost every case, probably resulting in the misreading of some first initials (in particular, one that resembles an F, but which may be a T or even an S). Second, the census taker either wrote a number or a long dash (signifying 0) in each age column; in several places it is not clear which was intended--he seems to have written something and then tried to correct it. For example, an oddly-shaped 0 can be seen in several places; these appear to have been a 1 changed to a 0 by adding a rounded line. Other places show a 1 with a dash written through it, which appear to have been begun as a dash which was later changed to a 1. All numbers that could not be clearly read are marked in this transcript by an asterisk with an explanation. The name of A. Ditch (p. 1) appears in the list of household heads, but no information seems to belong to his entry. This apparently happened because the census taker was "drifting" slightly as he wrote his way down the (unlined) page, and the lines became tipped slightly downward on the right hand side. He corrected this tendency just as he got to A. Ditch and in so doing he apparently skipped over this name and wrote down no information on the persons in this household. page 1/12 L.
