All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ________________________________________________ Manumission of Negro Man Joe From Catherine Patterson Miscellaneous Deed Book H-1 p 459 Recorder of Deeds Huntingdon County Pennsylvania May 1st 1802 Know all men by there presents that I Catherine Patterson of the Borough of Huntingdon in the County of Huntingdon from the motives of benevolence and humanity and for and in consideration of the faithful services of Negro man Joe Rendered during the lifetime of his former master Galbraith Patterson Esq. Deceased and his attention honesty and industry since that time have manumitted and hereby do manumit and set free from slavery the said negro man Joe from and after the nineteenth day of march which will be in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and four. On condition however that the said negro man Joe shall and continue honestly and faithfully to serve me my heirs and assigns for the term of two years from the date hereof next ensuing which will expire on the said nineteenth day of March AD 1804 and do hereby give grant title and claim of in and to his person labour and service and of in and to the estate and property which he may hereafter acquire or obtain excepting only his service in manner and during the time above mentioned.
