All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ________________________________________________ Manumission John Patton to Negro Joseph Miscellaneous Book H-1 P 554 Recorder of Deeds Huntingdon County Pennsylvania Know all men by these presents that I John Patton of the Borough of Huntingdon in the county of Huntingdon and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Esquire from motives of benevolence and humanity have manumitted and hereby do manumit and set free from slavery Negro Joseph aged about forty years on condition however that he do forthwith bind himself by indenture to serve me my executors administrators or assignees for the term of seven years from and after this date and fully to be complete and ended and I do hereby give grant and release unto the said Joseph all my right title and claim of in and to him person labor and service and of in and to the estate and property which he may hereafter acquire Or obtain, excepting only his service in manner and during the term above mentioned in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the tenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two. Allison Saml Massey Before me the subscriber one of the justices of the peace in and for the county of Huntingdon personally appeared John Patton Esquire who in due form of law acknowledged the above instrument or manumission to be his act and deed and desired it might be recorder as such witness my hand and seal the 10 August 1802 A true copy compared with the original Aug 23rd 1802
