Daniel married Eveanah Murritz on 30 March 1847 in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, married by Henry Furlong, Minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Daniel enlisted as a Private, on 3 August 1861 in Co. D, 49th Infantry Pennsylvania Volunteers. This unit was mustered into service on 31 October 1861. His discription at time of enrollmant was age 31; height 6'; hair, light; complexion,fair; eyes, blue; occupation, farmer; residence, Huntingdon County. The 49th Regiment Infantry was organized and Lewiston and Harrisburg, September 1861. Left Pennsylvania for Washington D. C. 22 Sept 1861. Attached to Hancock's Brigade,W.F. Smith's division, Army of the Potomac, to March 1862. Duty near Lewinsville, Va., for defense of Washington, D.C. until March 1862. advance on Manassas, Va., March 10-15. Return to Alexandria and embarked for the Virginia Peninsula. Siege of Yorktown April5 to May 4. Lee's Mills, Burnt Chimneys, April 16. Battle of Williamsburg May 5. Pursuit of the Chickahominy river and picket duty until june 25. Seven days before Richmond June 25-July 1. Garnett's Farm June 27. Golding's Farm June 28. Savage Station June 29. White Oak Swamp Bridge June 30. Malvern Hill Juyly 1. At Harrison's Landing until August 16. Movement to Centerville August 16-17. Duty in Maryland till the end of Oct. Daniel died at Union Hotel Hospital, Georgetown, D.C. of Chronic Diarrhoea on 23 September 1862. Daniel is buried in the Military Asylum Cemetery, Washington, D. C. Grave 1564 Daniel and Eve had four children. There are records of Porter and Caroline attending the Soldiers Orphan School at Cassville, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. The children resided there during the school year. Eve received a widows pension of $8. per month and $2. per month for each of the children. Eve died 23 September 1908 at Summer Hill, Pennsylvania.
