A notable occasion was the flag raising last Monday night at the Atlantic Radiator works. A pole 75 feet high, with a large ball at the top had been placed for the flag, which with a program was unfurled. At the same time a service flag of twenty-one stars was displayed, and the names of the men were announced. Judge Thomas F. Bailey made one of his usual fine addresses, and was followed by H. H. McElroy with an excellent patriotic address. The Municipal band furnished music. Several hundred persons were in attendance. A memorial service for Frank P. Hommon, a member of our old Company E. ho was killed in France on July 12 last, will be held in the First Methodist Episcopal church, which he attended, on next Sunday evening at 8 o'clock. Beatty, dentist, who was run down by an auto in Fifth street on Saturday night, August 3, was brought to her home from the Blair Memorial hospital on Wednesday. The little girl's condition is very good and that her injuries will not affect her normal development is assured. Mayor O. J. Cassady of Mt. Union, and his three vigilant police have started a crusade against gambling and speakeasies in that town. Several houses have been raided at night with varying results, and on Tuesday evening last a couple young men from Shade Gap had their suit cases of liquor confiscated when they walked up to their auto which had been left in waiting with the lights out.
