Italian Killed at Robertsdale. Charles Venire, an Italian coal miner, of Robertsdale, was shot by Antonio Guardano and instantly killed at that place on Thursday night of last week. Guardano escaped to the mountains, but was finally captured and brought to jail. He claimed that his victim had killed a brother of the former in Italy, and Guardano had followed him to take revenge. This was his excuse for the deed. The story from a witness is as follows: It seems that there should have been no enmity between the two for the prisoner owed the other man #200 which he paid back two months ago. It appears that Guardano had told Venire's landlady that she was not charging him enough rent, and when she told Venire it made him angry. He proceeded to Guardano's boarding house to investigate. They had some words in Venire's house, and Mrs. Venire objected to the quarrel there, putting Guardano out. Guardano then went to his boarding house, got his gun and started to look for Venire. He did not find him for half an hour. When he did meet Venire, another man was with him, and stood between them. Guardano told this man to get out of the way for he was going to kill Venire. He shot twice, the first bullet grazing Venire's stomach and the second piercing his brain through his ear. As far as known at present no man heard Venire make any threats against the prisoner, nor was he armed. Venire was killed instantly by the second shot, and was carried home by friends to his wife who is nursing a 4 month's old child. The prisoner was arrested by constable E. S. Heeter of Three Springs, who immediately notified Sheriff Port of Huntingdon. New Era Journal, Wednesday, November 23, 1904
