Appleby, Jr., 416 South Division Street, suffered a fatal heart attack about noon on Wednesday, July 10, 1974, while at his work at Appleby's Drug Store, Shirley Street, Mount Union. A registered pharmacist, he was 43, He had served as Mount Union's fire chief since 1969. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Heath funeral home in Mount Union. The Rev. Robert Holmes, pastor of the Mount Union First Presbyterian Church, will officiate and interment will be made in Haven Rest Memorial Cemetery, Shirleysburg R.D. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2 to 9 p.m., Friday and from 9 a.m. Saturday, until the hour for the services. Mount Union firemen will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m., Friday. Flowers will be received. It is the request of the family that memorial contributions be made to the Mount Union Fire Company or the Mount Union First Presbyterian Church. The deceased was born at the Huntingdon Hospital on June 24, 1931, a son of Fred B. Appleby, Sr., and Ethel (Workman) Appleby. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth E. Eby on Dec. 20,1952, at Merchantsville, N.J. In addition to his parents, residents of Mount Union, he is survived by his wife and six children: Kathy, Janet, Margaret, John, Michael and James, all at home. One sister, Mrs. William (Margaret) Kemmler, Greencastle, also survives. He was a member of the Mount Union First Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and trustee. He graduated from Mount Union High School in 1949 and from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1953. He was associated with his father in the operation of Appleby's Drug Store. The deceased was a member of the Mount Union Fire Company, the Huntingdon County Firemen's Association and the Central District Firemen's Association. He belonged to the Pennsylvania Pharmaceutical Association. Appleby was active in youth baseball in Mount Union and he was manager of one of the Little League teams. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity: F. and A.M. Lodge No. 688, Mount Union; Harrisburg Consistory and Jaffa Shrine, Altoona. Huntingdon Daily News, page 1 & 3, Thursday, July 11, 1974
