M. shabodeho@aol.com November 17, 2010, 1:53 pm Huntingdon Daily News 1/11/1940 Miss Martha Appleby died at the home of her nephew, Clifford Wells at Mullica Hill, N. J., Tuesday, January 9th, 1940, at 10:15 a.m. following an illness of three weeks. Born December 31, 1850 in Dublin Township, Huntingdon county. She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Speer) Appleby, both of whom were from pioneer families in Dublin Township. She was aged at the time of death, 89 years and 9 days. Miss Martha Appleby spent 69 years of her life in Dublin Township and at Neelyton, moving to Mullica Hill, New Jersey in 1919, where she made her home with her niece, Mrs. Eva (Appleby} Wells, who died in October 1939. Miss Appleby was a life-time member of the Presbyterian church having united with the church at Neelyton, Pa., when a young girl. She was well known in the lower end of Huntingdon County, being quiet and reserved and a likable disposition. She was the last member of a family of ten children. Two of her brothers gave their lives for their country during the Civil War. Funeral services will be held at the home of her nephew in Mullica Hill, N. J., on Thursday evening. Jan. llth, at 8 o'clock.
