Mrs. Ruth J. Appleby, 73, of Shirleysburg, died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 1975 at her home. She had been in failing health for two years. 

Born February 24, 1902, at Pitcairn, she was a daughter of Francis and Millie Stark. On July 16, 1956, she was married to Ralph D. Appleby of Shirleysburg. The ceremony was performed in Ebensburg.

Her widower survives, along with one daughter, Mrs. Mary Anne Ganze, Pitcairn, and three step-children: Richard Appleby, Florida, and Ralph Appleby, Jr., and Miss Shirley Appleby, both of Houghton, La. There are 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. Appleby left a brother and sister, Wesley Stark, Springdale, and Mrs. Rachel Trader, Florida.

She was of the Protestant faith. 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, from the Ott funeral home in Orbisonia. The Rev. R. Bruce Shannon, Jr., pastor of the Bethany Presbyterian Parish, will officiate. It was the request of the family that there be no public viewing.
