Gilbert L. BARTO, 100, of 2444 W. Gatesburg Rd. Warriors Mark, died
Friday, March 30, 2001, at his residence. Born June 11, 1900, in
Marengo, he was the son of the late John Henry and Anne (Masterson)
Barto. He is survived by seven children: Gail Dugan, State College;
Eddie R. Barto, Warriors Mark, R.D.; Anna Vivian Swortwood, Lamar;
Donald C. Barto, Quakertown; Merrill L. Barto, Warriors Mark, R.D.;
Joyce E. Fink, Sinking Valley; and Leona F. Smith, Warriors Mark, R.D.
There are 23 grandchildren, numerous great- and
great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Gladys Fry of Warriors Mark and
Roxie Collins of Utah, survive. He was preceded in death by two sisters
and a brother. Mr. Barto was a member of the Ross United Methodist
Church for over 60 years. He had been a lifelong farmer in the Gatesburg
area. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the
family, with Pastor Sharon Ludrowsky officiating. Interment will be made
in the Ross Cemetery. 

Alberta Mae CAROLUS, 87, a resident of Huntingdon Manor, formerly of
Barree Road, Alexandria, R.D. 1, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at 1
a.m., at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon. Born Dec. 25, 1913, in Barree,
she was reared by her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Keith. She
married John Wesley Carolus May 16, 1933, in Petersburg. He preceded her
in death ]an. 13, 1966. Surviving are five children: James W. Carolus,
Huntingdon; Robert J. Carolus, Petersburg; Mrs. Kermit (Laura A.)
Patterson, Huntingdon; Harvey B. Carolus, Alexandria; and Roberta R.
Port, Huntingdon. There are 17 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and
one great-great-grandchild. One sister, Betty Graham of Altoona,
survives. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie J. Danielak
Oct. 19, 1999. One brother and a granddaughter are deceased. Mrs.
Carolus was primarily a homemaker. For a number of years she had been
employed by K-Mart in the yard goods department. She retired in 1968.
She was a member of the Barree United Methodist Church, where she had
been the pianist for a number of years. Mrs. Carolus was also active
with the Juniata Valley Senior Citizens, where she enjoyed cooking,
bingo and playing the piano. She attended the Alexandria public schools
and had been a long-time resident of the Juniata Valley prior to moving
to Huntingdon Manor May 31, 1996. Funeral services will be held at 11
a.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Juniata
Valley Chapel, 412 Main St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Sharon Landis
officiating. Interment will be made in the Mooresville Cemetery. 

Shirley K. TEETERS, 70, of Grazierville, Tyrone, R.D. 4, died Saturday,
March 31, 2001, at her home. Born Jan. 3, 1931, in Altoona, she was a
daughter of the late Rev. Elmer and Hazel (Stonebraker) Hosband. She
married Andrew S. Teeters Jr. Oct. 1, 1955. Surviving along with her
husband are four daughters and three sons: Edna Breon, Shirley Boger,
Patricia Miller, Joanne Miller, Andrew Teeters III, Benjamin Teeters and
Richard Teeters, all of Grazierville. There are 17 grandchildren and 21
great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Jane Snyder of Tyrone
and a brother, Robert Hosband of Altoona. Mrs. Teeters was formerly
employed at Big Yank in Tyrone, as a seamstress for 10 years. She had
also worked at the F&F Dry Cleaners in Tyrone. She attended the First
Assembly of God Church in Tyrone, where she sang in the choir. She loved
her children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday,
April 3, at 11 a.m., at the Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone, with the Rev.
William Glunt officiting. Interment will be made in the Alexandria
Presbyterian Cemetery. 

Galen Morgan BROWN, 60, of Tyrone Street, Greencastle, formerly of Burnt
Cabins, died at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001, at the Waynesboro
Hospital, Waynesboro. Born Oct. 23, 1940, in Dublin Township, Fulton
County, he was the son of the late Morgan Elder and Hazel (Locke) Brown.
He never married. Surviving are two sisters, Doris (Brown) Hann of
Waterford, Conn., and Marlene Van Ryan of Level Green. Several aunts,
uncles, two great-aunts and several nieces, nephews and cousins survive.
Mr. Brown attended the Spirit of Christ Community Church, Chambersburg.
For the past nine years, he had resided with K6nneth and Debbie Haines
of Tyrone Street, Greencastle. Funeral services will be held at noon
Thursday, April 5, at the Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap,
R.D., with the Rev. David Hamilton officiating. Interment will be made
in the church cemetery. 

Robert C. MARTIN, 72, of 270 Clay School Rd., Ephrata, died at home
Monday morning, April 2, 2001. Born in Elizabethtown, he was the son of
Mary Koser Martin of Lancaster and the late Coyle S. Martin. He was
married to the former Ellen Stohler for 47 years. Surviving, along with
his wife and mother, are three sons: Robert C. Martin Jr., Richland;
Richard C. Martin, Lancaster; and Ronald C. Martin, Davidsonville, Md.
There are nine grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and two
sisters: Coyle E. Martin, Palmyra, Mrs. Donald (Dorothy) Stick, Reading,
and Mrs. Paul (Ethel) O'Meara, Denver, Colo. Mr. Martin was a memmber of
the Lititz Church of the Brethren. >From 1961 until 1973, he worked for
the former RCA Corp. in Lancaster and from 1973 until 1993, he worked at
Yellow Freight. He received the One Million Mile Safe Driving award
while working for Yellow Freight. He later worked part time for Wheary's
Wagon Service as a van driver. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served
during the Korean War. He was a NASCAR fan and a Harley-Davidson
enthusiast. He was a former resident of the Huntingdon area. Funeral
services will be held Thursday, April 5, at 10 a.m., at the Stradling
Funeral Homes, Inc., Ephrata, with the Rev. Robert D. Kettering
officiating. Interment will be made in the Memory Gardens Memorial
Cemetery. 

Alma G. RUTHERFORD, 93, of SR 103 South, McVeytown, and a guest at
Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, died at 5:31 p.m. Monday,
April 2, 2001, at the nursing home. Born Feb. 24, 1908, in Bratton
Township, she was the daughter of the late Martha E. (Moist) Renninger
and stepfather, the late Harvey Renninger. She was raised by her aunt
and uncle, the late Aaron and Belle Moist. Her husband, Nelson I.
Rutherford, died Sept. 4, 1973. She is survived by children, Rev. Carl
N. Rutherford, Mifflinville, Phyllis R. House, Mrs. John (Shirley)
McVey, and Gary N. Rutherford, all of McVeytown, and Stanley C.
Rutherford, Lewistown; a sister, Hazel Eckert, McVeytown; 12
grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a
sister, Geraldine Renninger. She was a homemaker. She was a member of
the McVeytown United Methodist Church and the former McVeytown Senior
Citizens Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the
Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev.
Marian E. Hartman officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial
Park, Lewistown. 

Mary Ellen TUCKER, 84, of Brandenburg, Ky., died Monday, April 2, 2001,
at Harrison, County Hospital, Corydon,lnd. Born July 19, 1916, she was
the daughter of the late William and Esther M. (Hayes) Richardson. She
is survived by two sons: James Raymond Tucker of Three Springs and
Richard "Tom" Tucker, Brandenburg,,Ky. There are nine grandchildren, 19
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Two sisters, Marian
Miller of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Carrie Ross of Smithsburg, Md.,
survive. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5,
at the Chapel of the Hager Funeral Home, Brandenburg, Ky., with the Rev.
Jim Wilson officiating. Interment will be made in the Cap Anderson
Cemetery. 

Thomas Wayne WATKINS Sr., 76, of Broad Top City, died at 1:?6 a.m.
Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. His
death was unexpected. Born May 9, 1924, in Broad Top City, he was the
son of the late Cloyd and Lillius (Black) Watkins. He married Martha Lou
Moreland Feb. 21, 1948, in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Watkins survives at
home, along with the following children: Thomas W. Watkins Jr., and
Robert E. Watkins, both of Broad Top; Kimberly J. Balmer, Hershey;
Daniel C. Watkins, Shippensburg; and Janet K. Havern, Frederick, Md.
There are nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A daughter and
son-in-law, Marissa A. and Jack A. Wible, preceded him in death. Two
sisters, Delores Angelo of Broad Top and Florine Jones, Clearville,
survive. Mr. Watkins worked as a coal miner at GM&W Mines. He had been a
member of the United Mine Workers of America for 25 years and he had
also worked as a truck driver for Stoudnour Petroleum. He was an active
member of the Broad Top Church of God. During World War II, he served as
a private in the U.S. Army. He received the Good Conduct Medal,
European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, five bronze stars and one
bronze arrowhead. Mr. Watkins was active in the Broad Top Old-Timers
Baseball Association and was a charter member of the Watson and Black
American Legion Post No. 126, Broad Top. He enjoyed hunting, fishing,
gardening, playing baseball and spending time with his family. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Curtis A.
Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top, with Pastor John Robinson officiating.
Interment will be made in the Broad Top IOOF Cemetery, with full
military honors. 

Allen B. BLACK, 76, of 108 Fawn Meadow Court, Lancaster, died Monday,
April 2, 2001, at Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster, after a brief
illness. Born in the Broad Top, he was the son of the late Forrest A.
and Nora A. (LaVelle) Black. He married Dorothy J. (Tewell) Black and
they would have marked their 50th anniversary June 10, 2001. Surviving,
along with his wife, are three sons: Preston K. Black, Lebanon; Dennis
W. Black, Bolivar, Tenn.; David A. Black, Lancaster. There are 11
grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister survive: Omer T. Black, Saxton;
Darlee Black, Huntingdon; and Patsy A. Hoover, Arizona. He was preceded
in death by five sisters: Zelda Ross, Regina Black, Phyllis Ehrhart,
Alice Mellott and Glendora Dick. Mr. Black was a retired credit manager
for the Amity Finance Company. From 1978 until 1982, he owned the Hotel
Penn Hunt in Huntingdon. He was a member of the First United Methodist
Church, Lancaster. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member
of the VFW Millersville Post No. 7294. Mr. Black was a 32nd degree Mason
in Hiliman Lodge, Youngstown, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at
the First United Methodist Church, Duke and Walnut streets, Lancaster,
Friday, April, 6, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Kent E. Kroehler
officiating. Interment will be made in the Indiantown Gap National
Cemetery. 

Marianna Elizabeth "Betty" ERB, 71, of 1406 Airline North, Rosharon,
Texas, formerly of Saltillo, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at 3:20 a.m.,
at Christus Saint Joseph Hospital, Houston, Texas, following an extended
illness. Born Sept. 17, 1929, in Miami, Fla., she was the daughter of
the late Jewel Mae Walker. She married Charles F. Erb Sr. Feb. 26, 1946,
in Miami, Fla. He preceded her in death July 1, 1995. Surviving are
three daughters and four sons: Mary Reynolds, Jacksonville, Fla.; Harry
Raymond Erb, Rosharon, Texas; Charles F. Erb Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.,
Charlotte Hancock, Saltillo; Robert Dale Erb, Rosharon, Texas; Sue Ann
Joyce, Jacksonville, Fla.; and James Edward Erb, Saltillo: There are 11
grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. Mrs. Erb was a member of
the Sandy Point Bible Church, Rosharon, Texas. She was employed as an
usher while residing in Florida and was primarily a homemaker. She
attended the public schools of Miami, Fla. She had been a resident of
Saltillo from 1983 until 1995 and, had lived at her current residence
since 1995. Mrs. Erb enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, gardening and
quilting. A graveside funeral service will be held at the Saltillo
Cemetery Saturday, April 7, at 9 a.m., with the Rev. Thomas W. Cahill
and the Rev. Verna L. Cahill officiating. Interment will be made in the
Saltillo Cemetery. 

Elinor Mae FEAGLEY, 74, formerly of 816 Pennsylvania Ave., Smithfield,
Huntingdon, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at 1:25 p.m., at The Oaks at
Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. Born Dec. 8, 1926, in Williamsburg, she
was the daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth (Henderson) Van Orman.
She married Randall Brindle Jan. 16, 1943. He preceded her in death in
1945. She later married Chester N. Feagley March 15, 1947, at the
Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church parsonage in Huntingdon. Mr.
Feagley preceded her in death Dec. 27, 1996. Surviving are the following
children: Joyce E. Harkleroad, Mill Creek; Patricia A. Miller,
Huntingdon; Michael W. Feagley, Devon; Gloria J. Fortune, Huntingdon;
Margaret S. Allison, Alexandria; Thomas W. Feagley, Huntingdon; and
Alice E. Brown, Alexandria. There are 26 grandchildren, 19
great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild. Two children,,
Dean. E. Feagley and Nancy E. Ebersole, preceded her in death. The last
surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by
thrw sisters and three brothers: Gladys Miles, Kathryn Bailey, Effie
Creswell, Richard Thompson, Ray Thompson and Frank Thompson. Mrs.
Feagley was a member of the Emmanuel Bible Church, Huntingdon, R.D. 4.
She was a homemaker and a charter member of the Smithfield Community
Bible Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 6, at 11 a.m.,
at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Gregory
L. Harven officiating. Interment will be made in the Huntingdon Memorial
Gardens, Huntingdon, R.D. 1. 

Calvin A. SOUDERS Jr., 53, of Pleasant Ridge Road, Harrisonville, died
at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at the Fulton County Medical
Center, McConnellsburg, following an extended illness. Born July 9,
1947, in Hagerstown, Md., he was a son of the late Calvin A. Souders Sr.
and Margaret E. (Hose) Souders, who survives in Hagerstown, Md. He
married Joyce E. Seville Nov. 17, 1989, in Fort Littleton. Mrs. Souders
survives at home, along with two children: Jody L. Souders of Midway
Park, N.C., and Calvin A. Souders IV, at home. Also surviving are a
brother, James V. Souders of Clear Spring, Md., and two half sisters,
Phoebe McLucas and Nancy Commer, both of Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Souders
attended the McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church. For the last 11
years, he was employed by the Area Agency on Aging in McConnellsburg. A
veteran of.the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean Conflict. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at the
McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church, 116 Second St.,
McConnellsburg, with the Rev. William Hammann and the Rev. Charles Hicks
officiating. Interment will be made in the Union Cematery,
McConnellsburg. R.D. 

Mary Louise BROWN, 58, of Mifflintown RR4 (Manbeck Heights), died at 5
p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at her home. Born April 17, 1942, in
Neelyton, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Earl and
Stella (Horne) Scott. Her husband, Larry E. Brown, whom she married June
26, 1960, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mary Ann Brown, at
home; brothers and sister, James Scott, Millerstown, Carol Suders, Mount
Union and Steven Scott, Mifflintown; and many nieces and nephews. She
was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Scott and a sister, Donna
Seager. She was a 1960 graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mount Union
and a 1982 graduate of the Juniata-Mifflin School of Practical Nursing.
She was employed by the Juniata County School District in the cafeterias
of Fermanagh-Mifflintown and Mountain View Elementary Schools and then
worked as a licensed practical nurse at Locust Grove Retirement Village,
Mifflin from 1984 until l994. She attended New Life Assembly of God
Church. She loved spending time with her family and reading her Bible.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Life Assembly of God
Church, with the Rev. Jack Twombly officiating. Interment will be in the
Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg RR1. 

Samuel David KELLER, 67, of 1437 N. Fourth Ave., Altoona, formerly of
Petersburg, R.D. 1, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Bon Secours Holy
Family Hospital, Altoona. Born Aug. 7, 1933, in Huntingdon County, he
was the son of the late Clifford David Keller and Mary A. (Lightner)
Keller Weaver, who survives in New York. He married Janet A. Berkheimer
July 7,1956, in Hollidaysburg. Mrs. Keller survives, along with two
daughters: Debra K. Smith and Karen L. Lattieri, both of Altoona. There
are two grandchildren. One sister, Clara E. "Sis" Foor of New York,
survives. Mr. Keller attended the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God
Church. Educated in the Juniata Valley School District, he was a truck
driver. He served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 10, 1953, until June 10,
1955. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, at 9 a.m., at the
E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 315 North Seventh Ave., Altoona,
with the Rev. Henry L. Shaffer officiating. Interment will be made in
the Alto Reste Park. 

Barbara Louise SWARM, 56, of State College, died Thursday, April 5,
2001, at Centre Community Hospital. Born Oct. 10, 1944, in Bellefonte,
she was a daughter of Harry Breon of Bellefonte and the late Louise Hoy
Breon. On Nov. 29, 1969, she married Joseph B. Swarm, who survives at
home. She was a 1962 graduate of State College High School. A bookkeeper
for Bro-Dart Industries in Williamsport, she retired in 1977. She was a
member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Centre County Historical
Society, Centre County Genealogical Society and the Muscular Dystrophy
Association. She mailed cards to shut-ins for St. Paul's United
Methodist Church. She also enjoyed her family, crossword puzzles, NASCAR
racing and working on her family tree. In addition to her father and her
husband, she is survived by a daughter, Karen Louise Moore of
Huntingdon; a brother, Larry Breon of Pennsylvania Furnace; and three
grandchildren. A sister preceded her in death. The funeral will be at
10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 109 McAllister
St., State College, with the Rev. Thomas H. Jacobs officiating. Burial
will be in Shiloh Cemetery. 

Anna Mary GARDNER, 73, of Shirleysburg R.R. 1, died at 5:18 a.m.,
Friday, April 6, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Her death was unexpected. She was born Feb. 18, 1928, in Cromwell
Township, the daughter of the late Dewey Corbin and Hazel B. (Whitsel)
Corbin Meloy. She was married Paul E. "Pete" Gardner Nov. 10, 1948, in
Niagara Falls, N.Y. She is survived by her husband at their home, along
with the following children: Joel E. Gardner of Mount Union, R.R. 1;
Susan A. Gardner of Shirleysburg, R.R. 1; David Kim Gardner of
Shirleysburg, R.R. 1; Lisa K. Flasher of Manassas, Va. and Glen J.
Thompson of Huntingdon. She is also survived by a sister, Della M. Coder
of Mapleton, and a brother, Robert Corbin of Lancaster, as well as 12
grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gardner was a member of
the Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, Mount Union, R.R. 1 and a 1946
graduate of Mount Union High School. She was employed at the former L.
Grief Brothers Manufacturing Company, Mount Union, for 12 years. She
also drove school bus for 15 years for the Mount Union Area School
District for Gardner's Bus Service, owned and operated by her husband.
She was a member of the Mount Union chapter 280 of the Order of Eastern
Star and the Fort Shirley Lioness Club. Funeral services will be held at
1:30 p.m., Monday, April 9, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount
Union, with the Rev. James Hullihen officiating. Interment will be made
at Mount Nebo Cemetery, Shirlevsburg, R.R. 1.

Donald D. BARTHOLOMEW, 71, of 110 Calvin Way, Huntingdon, died Friday,
April 6, 2001, at 1:10 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon. His health had been declining for the past several years. He
had been a resident of The Oaks at Westminster Woods since moving to
Huntingdon in May 2000. Born Aug. 2, 1929, in Emory University, Georgia,
he was the son of, the late Dr. R.A. and Ruby Clementine (Dekle)
Bartholomew. He married Paula Hagood Jan. 29, 1954, in Albany, Ga. Mrs.
Bartholomew survives at their Huntingdon residence, along with the
following children: John M. Bartholomew, China, Mich.; Mrs. Robert
(Deborah) Glass, Suttons Bay, Mich.; Mrs. Conrad (Barbara) Bender, Mount
Clemens, Mich.; Mrs. Dan (Sandra) Alway, Huntingdon; and Donald D.
Butler, Lavonia, Ga. There are eight grandchildren and one
great-granddaughter. One brother, Dr. Phillip Bartholomew of Atlanta,
Ga., and one sister, Dr. Gail Hill-Jones of Durham, N.C., survive. Mr.
Bartholomew was a self-employed research physicist. He received a
special honor presented by the U.S. Patent Department for this extensive
number of patents applied for and approved. He was a member of several
honorary societies and professional research organizations. He was a Phi
Beta Kappa at Georgia Tech and was a member of the Rotary Club
International. He was a member of the Word of Life Fellowship of
Huntingdon, R.D. 2. A graduate of Druid Hill High School in Atlanta,
Ga., he received various degrees in physics from Georgia Tech
University. Mr. Bartholomew served with the U.S. Air Force during the
Korean Conflict. He was attached to Headquarters 508th Strategic Fighter
Wind (SAC) as an aircraft mechanic. He moved to his Huntingdon home in
May 2000 from Westminster, S.C. Prior to that, he and his wife had
resided in Marine City, Mich. A family memorial service was held in
Huntingdon. 

Dolly (Wells) CLARK, 86, of R.D. 1, Box 64, McConnellstown, died
Saturday, April 7, 2001, at 5 a.m., at The Oaks at Westminster Woods,
Huntingdon, following an extended illness. Born Jan. 14, 1915, in Bull
Run, Va., she was the daughter of the late Carlton and Florence (Ball)
Wells. She married Robert C. "Shorty" Clark Jan. 1, 1949, in the
McConnellstown UCC Parsonage. Mr. Clark survives at their McConnellstown
residence, along with a son, Ronald L. Beaver of Ocean City, Md. There
are three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One son, Cliff B.
Beaver died June 13, 1982. Mrs. Clark was predominantly a homemaker. For
a number of years, she worked at the Arrow Shirt Company and the Blair
Company. She was a member of the Trinity UCC Church, McConnellstown,
where she was active in the Sunday School Class 7 and the Ladies Aid
Society. Her main interests were her church and home. She also enjoyed
painting, sewing and cooking. She had been a lifetime resident of
Huntingdon County. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday,

Ruth M. BROWN, 96, a resident of the Woodland Retirement Center,
Orbisonia, formerly of 309 Fourth St., Huntingdon, died Saturday, April
7, 2001, at 5:40 a.m., at the Woodland Retirement Center. Born April 29,
1904, in Smithfield Township, Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the
late Willis A. and Delia (Williams) Brown. She never married. She is
survived by three nieces. The last surviving member of her immediate
family, she was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
Miss Brown was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Huntingdon. She was active in her church, teaching nursery and primary
Sunday School for over 50 years. She was also a former member of the
Order of Eastern Star, Huntingdon Chapter No. 159. She retired in 1969,
from Reeves Parvin Company after 47 years of service as a secretary.
Miss Brown attended the public schools of Smithfield Township and
graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1922. A resident of Huntingdon
County since birth, she had lived at her current residence since October
1988. A private funeral service will be held at the John B. Brown
Funeral Home, Huntingdon, at the convenience of the family, with the
Rev. Peter J. Naschke officiating. Interment will be made in the
Riverview Cemetery. Huntingdon. 

Joseph Raymond PITCOX, 85, of Great Cove Road, Fort Littleton, died at
9:25 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, at Manor Care Health Services,
Chambersburg. Born Sept. 30, 1915, in Hamlin, Jones County, Texas, he
was the son of the late Joseph Randolph and Nellie Mae (Moore) Pitcox.
He married Laura (Adams) Mixell Sept. 27, 1057. Mrs. Pitcox preceded him
in death Dec. 21, 1993. Surviving are a stepson, Earl A. Mixell of Fort
Littleton, five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren. One great-granddaughter, Olivia Mixell, is
deceased. He was also preceded in death by two brothers. Mr. Pitcox was
a member of the Fort Littleton Bible Church, where he was an elder. He
also belonged to the Hustontown Area Senior Citizens. He worked As a
roofer and was a former union member. A veteran of World War II, he
served in the U.S. Army in Italy. He was qualified as a sharpshooter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the
M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, with Pastor Deb Strait officiating.
Interment will be made in the Susquehanna Memorial Park, York. 

Mary W. SABOLSICE, 94, a resident of the Woodland Retirement Center,
Orbisonia, formerly of Wood, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at 5:45 p.m.,
at the retirement center. She had been in failing health. Born Jan. 28,
1907, in Hawk Run, she was the daughter of the late Andrew John and Anna
Watro. She married Peter Sabolsice in Hawk Run in 1925. He preceded her
in death Feb. 10, 1970. One son, Andrew J. Sabolsice of Wood, survives.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in
death by three brothers and one sister. Mrs. Sabolsice was a member of
the Immaculate Conception Parish in Dudley. She retired in 1968 as
postmaster in Wood, after more than 22 years of service. She enjoyed
reading, crocheting and taking care of her rose garden. A funeral Mass
will be held Wednesday, April 11, at 10 a.m., at the Immaculate
Conception Church in Dudley with the Rev. Patrick Leahey officiating.
Interment will be made in St. John the Baptist Bizantine Cemetery, Hawk
Run, with the Rev. Donald Voss officiating. 

Elwood W. "Shibe" GRACEY, 87, formerly of Three Springs, died at 11:25
p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the Woodland Retirement Center,
Orbisonia. Born March 7, 1914, in Taylor Township, Fulton County, he was
a son of the late John and Myrtle (Berkstresser) Gracey. He was married
to Florence McArthur, who preceded him in death in 1980. Surviving are
two children, Donald Gracey of Shippensburg and Susan Gracey of San
Mateo, Calif. There are five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
One son, David Gracey, is deceased. A sister, Margaret Ward of the
Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, survives. Four brothers and two
sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Gracey was of the Methodist faith. He
was a member of the Cromwell Lodge No. 572 F&AM, Orbisonia. He retired
in 1975 from the Pennsylvania Auditor General's Office. Private
graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. 

Tuie Jean SNYDER, 83, of 46 Hubble St., Cedar Crest, Mount Union, died
at 8:40 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Mar.
5, 1918 in Mount Union, she was a daughter of the late James and Velika
Christoff. Her husband, Charles J. Snyder, whom she married April 6,
1946 in Altoona, died Sept. 3, 1968. Surviving are: children, Malcolm
Rex Conner, Pennsylvania, Kay S. Shatzer, Charleston, Ill., C. Edward
Snyder, Lewistown and Joe J. Snyder, Cedar Crest; five grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers and
sisters, Vasilo Dudick, Lottie Brown, Alex Christoff, George Christoff,
and Arthur Christoff. She was a member of Cedar Crest-Lucy Furnace
Chapel. She was a member of Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union. She
retired as an examiner from Scotty's Fashions in Lewistown in 1968.
Prior to that, she was employed by L. Grief Mfg. and Genesco Corp. of
Mount Union, for 35 years. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at
the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Jeff
Winstead officiating. Interment will be in the Haven Rest Memorial Park,
Shirleysburg RR1. 

John Morris HELTON, 75, of 145 W. Clearview Ave., State College,
formerly of Mount Union, died at 6:39 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001, at the
Centre Community Hospital, State College. He had been in failing health.
Born Aug. 3, 1925, in Kistler, Mount Union, he was the son of the late
John and Dorothea (Morris) Helton. He married Mary Jane White Oct. 25,
1946. Mrs. Helton survives at home, along with the following children:
John R. Helton of Calgary, Canada; Carol J. Ahmed, State College; Ruth
A. "Denna" Helton of Mount Union; Robert N. Helton and Claude G. Helton,
both of State College; Morris E. Helton, Harrisburg; Ronald C. Helton
and Vicki A. Helton-Hunter, both of State College. There are 15
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two children, Charles
Russell Helton and Martha Ann Helton, preceded him in death. The last
surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded, in death by
the following brothers and. sisters: Cletus Helton Sr., Richard Helton
Sr., Jeane Virginia Golden and Helen Harris. Mr. Helton was a member of
the Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Mount Union. He retired[ in 1975
from New Enterprise and was also a retired member of the Mount Union
Volunteer Fire Company. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army
in Italy, the Philippines and Casablanca. Mr. Helton was an avid auto
racing fan and enjoyed hunting. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Thursday, April 12, at the Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Mount
Union, with the Rev. I.S. Owens and the Rev. Raleigh Wingfield
officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Union Cemetery. 

Charles Robert POWELL Sr., 65, of 649 Petersburg Pike, Oneida Township,
Huntingdon, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at 3:45 p.m., at J.C. Blair
Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. His death was sudden and unexpected. Born
Jan. 30, 1936, in Huntingdon, he was the son of John B. and Helen L.
(Beatty) Powell, who survive in Huntingdon. He manied Lila Maxine Coy
Sept. 25, 1954, in Scranton. Mrs. Powell survives at home, along three
children: Mrs. Michael (Diana) Andrus, Lock Haven; Mrs. Clyde (Lynda)
Stayer and C.R. Powell Jr., both of Huntingdon. There are six
grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother also survive; Mrs. Ralph
(Patricia) Brown, Mrs. John (Donna) Dixon and George Powell, all of
Huntingdon. Mr. Powell retired as a sergeant from the State Correctional
Institution Huntingdon in 1990, after more than 28 years of service.
During his retirement, he had worked at several jobs. Area residents and
tourists would recognize him as Captain Charlie Bob of Raystown Lake's
Proud Mary. He had also worked as a driver for Chet Grove's Cars
Unlimited. He was a member of the Abbey Reformed Church, UCC,
Huntingdon. He was a member of the Huntingdon County Flying Club and had
been a licensed pilot and flight instructor for over 20 years. Mr.
Powell enjoyed music and had been a member of the local band, The
Cameo's, for a number of years as an electric bass player. He was also
an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and riding
motorcycles. During his younger years, he had been a race-car driver and
had won a track championship at the Hesston Speedway. He had attended
the Huntingdon High School. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon, he had
lived at his Petersburg Pike home for the past 41 years. Mr. Powell was
an organ donor for Organ Recovery and Education. Funeral services will
be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral
Home, 207 Ridge Road, Smithfield Township, Huntingdon, with the Rev.
Gary H. Marcy officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery,
Huntingdon. 

Donald "Duck" L. ALLSHOUSE, 75, of 16 Grant Rd., Ridgway, died early
Tuesday morning, April 10, 2001, at DuBois Regional Medical Center West.
Born Feb. 26, 1926, in Summerville, he was the son of the late Robert
and Alice Allshouse. He married Catherine A. Brunner April 30, 1955.
Mrs. Allshouse survives at home, along with four daughters: Donna
Kilhoffer of Ridgway, Karen Grimminger of Hesston, Nancy Perryman of
Ridgway and Mary Beth Kucenski of Ridgway. There are ten grandchildren.
Two sisters and a brother also survive: Helen Kicer and Adda Heidenrich,
both of Florida, and Herman Allshouse of Louisiana. Many nieces and
nephews survive. Mr. Allshouse resided in Ridgway for most of his life
and was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ. He had been
employed by National Moulded for 17 years. Funeral services will be held
at the Thompson Funeral Home, Ridgway, at 1:30 p.m..Thursday, April 12,
with the Rev. Gerald J. Harris, rector of Grace Episcopal Church,
officiating. Interment will be made in the Ott Cemetery in Ridgway. 

James R. CARPER, 45, of 24 W. Shirley St., Apt. A, Mount Union, died
Monday, April 9, 2001, at his residence. Born Dec. 26, 1955, in Warriors
Mark, he was the son of the late Robert W. and Letitia F. (Thompson)
Carper. He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Lynne E.
Lagle, Huntingdon; Robert J. Carper, Mount Union; William G. Carper,
Reedsville; David W. Carper, Mount Union; Ronald J. Carper, Allensville.
Mr. Carper was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the Mill
Creek Volunteer Fire Company and the Sons of Italy, Mount Union. Private
funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be made in the Goodman Cemetery, Huntingdon, R.D. 3. 

Barry L. DAVID, 60, of R.R. 2, Box 86, Jackson Township, Huntingdon,
died Monday, April 9, 2001, at 1:58 p.m., in the emergency room of the
Lewistown Hospital. Born March 25, 1941, in Huntingdon, he was the son
of the late Vance and Phyllis (Deter) David. He married Joyce A. Koch,
who survives at home. Also surviving are the following children: Mrs.
Rick (Cynthia) Aurand, Huntingdon; Mrs. Dan (Lori) Cramer, Howard; Mrs.
Norman L. (Heather) Keller, Petersburg; and Barry A. David at home. One
step-daughter, Mrs. Sidney (Mandy) Peck of Huntingdon, survives. There
are five grandchildren. One brother, Garry David of Altoona, survives.
Mr. David enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved fishing and hunting.
Graveside funeral services will be held at the Mountainview Cemetery in
Mill Creek at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, with the Rev. Shirley Russell
officiating. 

Hilda I. BOYER, 83, of Spruce Creek, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at
10:10 p.m., at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. Born May 17, 1917, in
Saxton, she was the daughter of the late Harrison Frederick and
Charlotte Grace (Ramsey) Dick. She married Charles R. Boyer June 9,
1934, in Cumberland, Md. He preceded her in death Oct. 19, 1991.
Surviving are a daughter and three sons: Joanne Nelson, Spruce Creek;
John L. Boyer, Tyrone, R.D. 4; Galen C. Boyer, Tyrone; and Chester R.
Boyer, Alexandria. There are 13 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren
and a great-great-grandson. One sister and two brothers also survive:
Roxanna Showalter of Alexandria, Fred Dick of Barree and George Dick of
Alexandria, R.D. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two
sisters. Mrs. Boyer was president of the John C. Yenter Associates in
Tyrone, succeeding her husband, who was president from 1966 until 1991,
following his death. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist
Church in Three Springs and the Tyrone Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed
the Bob Myers Gospel Notes television show. Funeral services will be
held Saturday, April 14, at 11 a.m., at the Feller Memorial Home,
Tyrone, with the Rev. Rick Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at
the Lower Claar Brethren Cemetery, Claysburg. 

Beryl Mae WATTERS, 77, Woodland Retirement Home, Orbisonia and formerly
of Rockhill Furnace, died Monday, April 9, 2001 at the Fulton County
Medical Center. Born August 22, 1923 in Huntingdon, she was the daughter
of the late Frank McCellan and Ruth Mildred Lynn Varner. She was married
to H. Dale Watters. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker, but
she also worked as a seamstress for various companies. She was a member
of the Burnt Cabins Methodist Church. She was a member of the
Mercersburg VFW Post #6241 Women’s Auxiliary, McConnellsburg American
Legion Post 561 Women’s Auxiliary. Surviving are a son, Dick Watters,
McConnellsburg; two daughters: Karen Covert, McConnellsburg and L. Kay
Hamman, Rockhill Furnace; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren
and two step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, three
brothers, a sister and a grandchild preceded her in death. Funeral
services will be held Friday, April 13 at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral
Home, McConnellsburg. Rev. Belvy White will officiate. Burial will be
made in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. 

Frank STANKO, 96, formerly of Huntingdon, more recently of 12953 Hamlet
Ave., Apple Valley, Minn., died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at the Ebenezer
Luther-Hall Nursing Home, Minneapolis, Minn. He is survived by his
daughter, Mrs. Vincent P. (Mary Jane) Trotta of Apple Valley, Minn.;
brother Nicholas Stenn of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former
Mary Herbenick and a son, Richard F. Stanko. Also, he was preceded in
death by two brothers, Andrew and Michael, and three sisters, Ann, Marie
and Julia. He served in the U. S. Navy, where he gained recognition as a
championship-level marathon swimmer and basketball player. Frank was a
master wood craftsman, business owner, and construction inspector for
the Pennsylvania General State Authority. He was a devout Catholic and a
Grand Knight Of the Knights of Columbus. A funeral Mass was held at St.
John's Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora April 5, 2001. Interment was
made at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Butler. 

Foster Charles BOLLINGER, 92, formerly of Blacklog Valley, Orbisonia,
died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Virginia Beach Health Care and
Rehabilitation Center, Virginia Beach, Va., where he spent the past four
and one-half years of his life. Born Sept. 16, 1908, in Blacklog Valley,
he was the son of the late Samuel Shade and Louella (Felmlee) Bollinger.
His first wife, Dollie (Mitchell-Bollinger) Leedy, preceded him in
death. He is survived by his second wife, Ora (Coblentz) Bollinger of
Sarasota, Fla., one son and one stepson: Stanley Charles Bollinger of
Virginia Beach, Va., and Robert M. Coblentz of Bradenton, Fla. There are
four grandchildren, four step- grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren. One granddaughter, Autumn Lee Bollinger, is deceased. He
was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister: Banks Bolinger,
Shade R. Bolinger and Mable (Bollinger) Dobbins. He was reared in
Blacklog Valley, where he spent most of his life until moving to
Sarasota, Fla., when he was 65 years old. He was a farmer. He was a
member of the Faith Baptist Church in Sarasota, Fla. Funeral services
will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 16, at the Orbisonia United
Methodist Church. Interment will be made in the Gilliland Cemetery in
Blacklog Valley, Orbisonia. 

Carroll Edward "Jug" POWELL, 78, died Monday, April 9, 2001, in Santa
Cruz, Calif. Born Jan. 11, 1923, in McMechen, W.Va., he was the son of
the late Perce Franklin and Freda Gertrude (Carroll) Powell. Surviving
are his wife of 56 years, Martha (Hickes) Powell and the following
children: Samuel Powell, Klamath River, Calif.; Daniel Powell,
Sacramento, Calif.; Carol Eaton, Mukwonago, Wis.; and Rosann Sidener of
Coral Gables, Fla. There are 11 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren
and two great-grandsons. Also surviving are the following siblings: John
Powell Sr., Huntingdon; Richard Powell, Lynn, Mass.; Peg King, Campton,
N.H.; Nancy Graffuis, Boise, Idaho; and Joann Shanbarger, Stuartstown.
Mr. Powell was a 1941 graduate of Huntingdon High School. He and his
wife lived in Huntingdon during the early years of their marriage, later
moving to the Pittsburgh area. He retired in 1987 from Penn Hills School
District security. In 1992, they moved to Santa Cruz, Calif., where he
was active in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Neighborhood Church,
serving as elder, helping in the, food giveaway program (Feeding Him),
and vacation Bible school. Until his recent illness, he was a volunteer
driver for the California Grey Bears. He was always ready and willing to
serve. A World War II veteran, Mr. Powell was quietly proud of his
military service as a motor machinist mate in tile Pacific aboard the
U.S. Navy submarines Seahorse and S- 28. He was a life member of the
U.S. Submarine Veterans WWII. He and his wife were fortunate to travel
together to many parts of the world, making friends wherever they went.
Mr. Powell enjoyed hunting and fishing, and until recently, he made a
point to be in Huntingdon for deer season. His greatest pleasure came
from time spent with his family. Many trips were made to visit children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will always be remembered for
the hundreds of sticky buns he baked for them over the years. His
greatest legacy was being a good family man. A memorial service
celebrating his life will be held Saturday, April 14, at the Christian
and Missionary Alliance Neighborhood Church, at 12:30 p.m. Interment
will be made in Santa Cruz, Calif. 

Roy LALLI, 71, of R.D. 1, Box 1015, Petersburg, died Thursday, April 12,
2001, at 10:14 p.m., in the emergency room of J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Dec. 28, 1929, in Union Furnace, he was the
son of the late Antonio and Marian (Miles) Lalli. He married Sally K.
Yoder March 17, 1951. Mrs. Lalli survives at home, along with the
following children: Robert L. Lalli, Petersburg, R.D. I; William D.
Lalli, Alexandria, R.D.; Roy A. "Bud" Lalli, Petersburg, R.D. 1, and
Sally M. Byler, Loganton. There are 12 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. The following brothers and sisters also survive:
Thelma Gill and Josephine Whitsel, both of Huntingdon; Betty Gardner,
Petersburg, R.D. 1; Joe Lalli, Huntingdon; and Frank Lalli, Tyrone. He
was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Frank, and a sister,
Dolores Keppler. Mr. Lalli was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a
member of the American Legion Post No, 520, Alexandria, Home Association
and the Petersburg Catering Club. He was a self-employed farmer for 30
years at his homestead. For ten years, he worked for Clapper- DeShong
and was later a groundskeeper at the Huntingdon Country Club and the
Standing Stone Golf Club prior to his retirement. Mr. Laili enjoyed his
grandchildren and hunting. Funeral services will be held Monday, April
16, at 11 a.m., at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with
the Rev. Shirley J. Russell officiating. Interment will be made in the
Mooresville Cemetery, Petersburg, R.D. 1. 

Gertrude D. RYAN, 92, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001. at the Ohio Valley
Health Care, Parkersburg, W.Va. Born Sept. 9, 1908, in Altoona, she was
the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret (Woods) Walter. Her
husband, Raymond J. Ryan, preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons
and one daughter: Thomas E. Ryan, Washington, W.Va.; Raymond J. Ryan,
Saginaw, Mich.; and Margaret Marcenelle, North Carolina. There are 14
grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. One brother, Leo Walter, of
Altoona, survives. Five siblings are deceased. Mrs. Ryan was a member of
the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Parkersburg, W.Va., and was
co- owner of Ryan Shoes from 1951 until 1973 in Huntingdon. A funeral
Mass was held today at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with the Rev.
Michael P. O'Reilly officiating. Interment was made in St. Mary's
Cemetery, Little Hocking, Ohio. 

Ruth A. STRUNK, 86, of 602 W. Berwick St., Easton, died Saturday, April
14, 2001, at ManorCare Health Services, Palmer Township. Born Aug. 27,
1914, in Easton, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Anna M.
(Wuchter) Holler. She married H. Allen Strunk Sr., who preceded her in
death in 1989. Surviving are a son and two daughters: Dr. H. Allen
Strunk Jr., Pinehurst, N.C., formerly of Huntingdon; Marsha S. Plantone,
Palmer Township, and Susan S. Sabatine, Washington Township. There are
11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One sister, Anna M.
Braun, preceded her in death. Mrs. Strunk retired in 1980 as co-owner of
the Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., Easton, where she was a licensed funeral
director with her husband since 1959. Prior to that, she was a teacher
and principal of the former Livingstone School in West Easton. She
graduated from Easton High School in 1930 and Kutztown State Teachers
College in 1934. Mrs. Strunk was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church,
Easton, where she was a member of Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church
of America (WELCA), St. Paul's Quilters and was a former member of
church council. Years ago, she was director of the vacation Bible
school. She was a member of Alpha Carda Gamma Bridge Club for over 50
years and a 50-year member of the William Parsons Chapter Order of
Eastern Star, both of Easton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, April 18, at the Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., 602 W. Berwick
St., Easton. Interment will be made in Northampton Memorial Shrine,
Palmer Township. 

Raymond Lewis "Poppy" HIRTH, 68. of 304 Spruce St., Smithfield,
Huntingdon, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at 1:55 p.m., at his
Smithfield Township residence. Born Jan. 18, 1933, in New York, N.Y, he
was the son of the late Raymond 0. Hirth and Winifred Naomi (Hummel)
Henney, who survives in Smithfield Township. He was married to the
former Linda Reed, who survives in Huntingdon. Surviving, along with his
mother and wife, are a son, Shane Allen Hirth of Lumberton, N.C., and
three grandchildren. Seven sisters and one brother also survive: Mrs.
Glenn (Florence) Henney, Smithfield, Huntingdon; Lorrie Tumlin, Mrs.
Fred (Naomi W.) Hess and DeeDee Brown, all of Huntingdon; Barbara C.

brother, Harry J. Hirth, preceded him in death. Mr. Hirth retired from
Owens Corning Fiberglas in Huntingdon. He was a member of the. Frank P.
Hommon American Legion Post No. 24 and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge
223, both of Huntingdon. He attended Huntingdon High School, and except
for a number of years as a child, had been a lifetime resident of
Huntingdon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting Avon bottles.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the
Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Ridge Road and Juniata Avenue, Smithfield,
Huntingdon, with Pastor Donald E. Malliband officiating. Private
interment will be made in the Riverview Cemetery. 

Vula M. BAKER, 77, a resident of Hollidaysburg VA Home, formerly of
Saxton, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at 9 p.m., at Bon Secours Holy
Family Hospital, Altoona. She had been in failing health for the past
several years. Born Jan. 26, 1924, in Broad Top City, she was the
daughter of the late Marshall and Lillian (Thompson) Swope. She married
Dean Emerson Baker June 30, 1941, in Hagerstown, Md. He preceded her in
death July 2, 1955. Surviving are the following children: Donna
Chamberlain and Wanda Barnett, both of Saxton, R.D.; Linda Scutchall,
Hopewell; Ronald Baker, William Baker and Lance Baker, all of Saxton;
and Thomas Baker, Harrisburg. There are 14 grandchildren, two
step-grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. One grandson, Joey W.
Scutchall, preceded her in death. One brother, Hubert Swope of Saxton,
and a sister, Margaret Pearson of Broad Top City, survive. She was
preceded in death by five brothers: Boyd Williams, Ken Swope, Cloyd
Swope, Marshall Swope and Wilbur Swope. Mrs. Baker was a member of the
Saxton First Church of God. She was primarily a homemaker. Funeral
services will. be held Wednesday, April 18, at 11 a.m., at the D. Ronald
Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Alfred Chamberlain officiating.
Interment will be made in the Grandview Cemetery, Saxton, R.D. 

Richard E. "Dick" THOMPSON, 65, of R.D. 3, Box 138, Huntingdon, formerly
a resident of Main Street, Alexandria, for 31 years, died Sunday, April
15, 2001, at 7:14 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. His
death was unexpected. Born April 5, 1936, in Alexandria, he was the son
of Martin L. Sr. and Martha E. (Hearn) Thompson. His father preceded him
in death and his mother survives at James Creek, R.D. 1. He married
Beverly A. Yeager July 20, 1958, at Hawn's Bridge Community Church,
Juniata Township, with the Rev. Norwood Futrell officiating. Mrs.
Thompson survives at home, along with two sons and two daughters: Mark
R. Thompson, Petersburg; Jeffrey W. Thompson, James Creek, R.D. 1; Mrs.
Duane (Lynne A.) Franks, Petersburg, R.D. 1; and Mrs. David (Christine
M.) Borst, Alexandria. There are seven grandchildren and one
step-grandson. One brother and one sister survive: Robert M. Thompson,
Huntingdon, R.D. 3 and Mrs. Roy (Barbara A.) Morningstar, James Creek,
R. D. 1. He was preceded in death by a brother, Martin L. Thompson Jr.
of Harrisburg. Mr. Thompson was of the Protestant faith and was a life
member of the Alexandria Fire Company. He retired from Mead Corp. in
1997, after 24 years of service. Previously he was employed by J.B. Kunz
Co. in Huntingdon from 1964 until 1974. More recently, he was employed
pari-time by the Daily News and by Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Huntingdon.
He attended the public schools of, Huntingdon and graduated in 1955 from
Huntingdon High School. >From 1955 until 1959, he served as an airman
third class in the U.S. Air Force. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon
County, he had lived at his current residence for the past six years.
Mr. Thompson enjoyed traveling and was an avid camper and NASCAR fan. He
also coached the Alexandria Eagles Pee-Wee football team for three years
in the early 1970s. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday,
April 17, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc., Huntingdon, with the
Rev. John C. Dean and the Rev. Shirley J. Russell officiating. Interment
will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township,
Huntingdon, R.D. 1. 

Donald James HALL, 81, of Pharr, Texas, died April 5, 2001, at the Rio
Grande Regional Hospital. Born March 15, 1920, in Huntingdon, he was the
son of James Clarence and Olive Gertrude (Wright) Hall. He is survived
by his wife, the former Mary Jacque Bentsen and three sisters: Anna
Fisher of Huntingdon, Carrie Hall of Shirleysburg and Mrs. James (Alice)
Davidheiser of Leonardo, N.J. Nine nieces and nephews and three
godchildren survive. Mr. Hall graduated from Huntingdon High School in
1940 and joined the U.S. Army at the beginning of World War II. He
served in the OSS in Washington, D.C., until he was honorably discharged
in 1945. He moved to Pharr, Texas, with a fellow officer, whose parents
moved there in 1932. Mr. Hall was part owner of Frost Food Locker in
Pharr. He was later employed as a tax appraiser for Hidalgo County until
his retirement in 1983. He then worked for Parchman Oilfield Services
until 1993. He was active in numerous service organizations. He was a
past commander of American Legion Post 101; past Chef de Gare of Voiture
Locale 1077 of the 40/8; a life member of Disabled American Veterans; a
member of McAllen Lodge No. 1110 F&AM; member of the Scottish Rite,
Valley of San Antonio; member of Al Amin Shrine in Corpus Christi,
Texas; life member of the Oklahoma University Alumni Association. He
served for nine years on the Vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church in
Pharr, Texas. He was also a charter member of the Trinity Episcopal
Church men's group and served 15 years as the American Legion District
15 Boys State Chairman. A memorial service was held at the Trinity
Episcopal Church in Pharr April 10. His remains were inurned at the
church Columbarium. 

Jay T. HEFFNER, 79, of P.O. Box 144, Mill Creek, died at 1:30 a.m.
Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Huntingdon Manor, following an extended
illness. Born June 28, 1921, in Henderson Township, Huntingdon County,
he was the son of the late William and Lillian (Warfel) Heffner. He
married Daisy Kauffman in 1946, in Mifflin County. Surviving, along with
his wife, are a son, Dale L. Heffner of Shermans Dale, and a niece who
was reared in the home, Naomi Conrad of Huntingdon. There are four
grandchildren and one great-grandson. One daughter, Ruby Kay Parks,
preceded him in death. The last surviving member of his immediate
family, he was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters:
Shade Heffner, Glenn Heffner, Ruth Hicks and Esther Dysard. Mr. Heffner
was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with Cannon Company, 331st
Infantry in the European Theatre during World War II. He retired from
E.B. Endres Co. in Huntingdon after 46 years of service. A lifetime
member of the American Legion Post No. 322, Mapleton, he also belonged
to the Mill Creek Fire Hall and the Mapleton Sportsmen's Club. Mr.
Heffner was of the Protestant faith. Funeral services will be held at
1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home,
Mount Union, with the Rev. Georgetta "Cookie" Hartley officiating.
Interment will be made in the Trough Creek Valley Baptist Cemetery. 

John I. McCLOSKEY, 78, of Huntingdon, R.D. 1. died Monday, April 16,
2001, at 8:15 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born
Feb. 11, 1923, in Hollidaysburg, he was the son of the late William S.
and Susan Elizabeth Koon Campbell McCloskey. He was married three times.
His second wife preceded him in death Aug. 18, 1978, and his third wife,
Olive Treaster Briggs, died April 20, 1995. Surviving are three stepsons
and two step-daughters: Robert Briggs of Huntingdon, R.D. 1; William
Briggs, Wilson, N.Y.; Russell Briggs, Harpster, Ohio; Dollie Mae Bohn,
Milesburg; and Betty Lou Kelley, Bucyrus, Ohio. There are eight
step-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren. Three
step-grandchildren, Tammy, Todd and Debbie Briggs, preceded him in
death. One brother, Chester McCloskey of the Veterans Home in
Hollidaysburg, survives. He was preceded in death by three sisters and a
brother. Mr. McCloskey was a graduate of the Hollidaysburg High School,
Class of 1940, and attended Juniata College for two years from 1955-56.
During World War II, he served in the Eighth and Ninth Air Force in the
European Theatre of War. He retired as a painter and decorator and
enjoyed artistic painting. Funeral services will be held Wednesday,
April 18, at 2 p.m., at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc., with
the Rev. Dr. Dennis Reedy officiating. Interment will be made in the
Eastlawn Cemetery. 

Lloyd L. REED, 88, a resident of Morrisons Cove Home, Martinsburg,
formerly of Saxton, R.D., died Monday, April 16, 2001, at 12:30 p.m., in
the home, following an extended illness. Born Oct. 25, 1912, in Saxton,
R.D., he was the son of the late Charles W. and Susie (Wyles) Reed. He
married Hilda M. Hoffman Dec. 11, 1933, in Cumberland, Md. She preceded
him in death June 4, 1989. Surviving are the following children: Mrs.
Robert (Dolores) Coffman, Ronald E. Reed and Mrs. George (Susan)
Detwiler, all of Saxton, R.D. There are ten grandchildren, 17
great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. One sister,
Mary Cunningham of Saxton, survives. Five brothers and five sisters are
deceased: Earl Reed, Milton Reed, Roy Reed, Charles Reed, Chalmer Reed,
Dorothy Keifman, Myrtle Keifman, Almira Worthing, Mildred Ritchey and
Dolly Speck. Mr. Reed was a life member of the Raven Run Church of the
Brethren and the Everett Lodge F&AM. He was a coal miner for a number.
of years and also worked for H.J. Williams Construction Company. He
retired in 1970 as a farmer. He enjoyed planting flowers and gardening.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 19, at 11 a.m., at the
Raven Run Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Don Hammel officiating.
Interment will be made in St. Luke's Cemetery, Saxton, R.D. 

Jean D. REEDER, 78, of 109 W. Market St., Mount Union, died at 4:15 a.m.
Monday, April 16, 2001, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia,
following a lengthy illness. Born Aug. 20,1922, in Huntingdon, she was
the daughter of the late Fred and Mabel (Lightner) Drolsbaugh. She
married Glenn L. Reeder Dec. 18, 1946, in Huntingdon. Mr. Reeder
survives at home, along with a son, Fred G. Reeder of St. Joseph, Mich.,
and a grandson. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she
was preceded in death by a sister and a brother, Phyllis Jackson and
John Drolsbaugh. Mrs. Reeder was a member of the First United Methodist
Church in Mount Union and was a homemaker. She was an avid golfer and
for many years served as treasurer of the American Legion Country Club
Ladies Golf Association, Mount Union. She was also a member of the
Central Counties Golf Association. Mrs. Reeder graduated from Huntingdon
High School in 1940. Private funeral services will be held at the
convenience of the family at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount
Union, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Grundon officiating. Interment will be
made in the Mount Union Cemetery. 

James Roy DUVALL, 63, of McConnellsburg, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001,
at 3 p.m., at the Veterans Administration Affairs Medical Center,
Washington, D.C. Born July 97, 1937, in Everett, he was the son of the
late Porter George and Faye Leota (Bottenfeld) Duvall. He married Elton
Ruth (Wigfield) Schoen June 29, 1996. Surviving, along with his wife are
the following children: Wayne Duvall and Nathan Duvall, both of Fort
Littleton, Jeff Duvall of Burnt Cabins and Brenda Daniels, Biglerville.
Two stepchildren survive: Damon and Melanie Schoen and Sarah Duvall, all
of Fort Littleton. There are seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild
and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are several siblings:
Gloria (Duvall) Scheller, Ellwood City; Janice (Duvall) Glazier, Fort
Littleton; a half-brother, Terry Duvall, Hollsopple; and a step-
brother, Mac Clevenger of McConnellsburg. One sister, Leota Faye
(Duvall) Batzelle, preceded him in death Nov. 10, 1996. Mr. Duvall
served in the U.S. Army Military Police. After an honorable discharge,
he served as security chief at Atomic International, Canoga Park,
Calif., and as a Los Angeles County deputy sheriff. He was a fire warden
and land surveyor with Fulton Albert Larsen, while simultaneously
working full time for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission until his
retirement in 1993. >From 1959 until 1961, he worked for the Fish
Commission, constructing the 227-acre Meadow Ground Lake near
McConnellsburg. In the early 1960s, he was the camp ranger at the
Sinequippe Boy Scout Camp, Fort Littleton. He was a president of the
Meadow Ground Property Owners, Inc., and was instrumental in obtaining
the funds in 1997 to improve the Meadow Ground Road to the lake. Mr.
Duvall was a member of the Woodland Owners of Southern Allegheny, Inc.,
Bedford; and honorary member of the Pennsylvania Sheriff's Association;
was a member of the Planetary Society and the National Rifle
Association. He was a life-long proponent of environmental and wildlife
preservation and well-known for his love of dogs and advocate for their
humane treatment. Mr. Duvall was an award-winning wood carver, a
gunsmith, jewelry-maker and an amateur film-maker and photographer.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m., at the
United Methodist Church in McConnellsburg, with military honors. 

Sumner Benton SMITH, 71, of Box 214, Petersburg, died Wednesday, April
18, 2001, at 11:55 a.m., at his residence. His death was unexpected.
Born March 28, 1930, in Bound Brook, N.J., he was the son of the late
George E. and Helen (Hummer) Smith. He married Janet Ross Feb. 14, 1952,
at Crever Memorial United Methodist Church in Petersburg, with the Rev.
Owens officiating. Surviving, along with his wife, are four children:
Susan R. Tussey, Yucca Valley, Calif.; George Michael Smith, Wayne,
W.Va.; James Sumner Smith, Ebensburg; and Daniel S. Smith, Alexandria.
There are seven grandchildren. One brother, Edward E. Smith of
Maplewood, N.J., and a sister, Peggy Stevenson of Seattle, Wash.,
survive. Mr. Smith had worked for Tresco Electronics in Petersburg; Elco
Corp. in Huntingdon; and was vice president of operations at Boyer Candy
Company in Altoona. He retired in 1992 as proprietor of Whipple Dam
Store in McAlevys Fort. He was a member of Crcver Memorial United
Methodist Church, Petersburg. He was a long-time public servant, serving
as past president of the Juniata Valley School Board, Huntingdon County
Vocational System, Intermediate Unit for Huntingdon and Mifflin counties
and Petersburg Borough Council. A 1947 graduate of Dunellen High School
in New Jersey, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was an avid golfer.
Mr. Smith had lived at his Petersburg home since moving to the Juniata
Valley in 1963. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday,
April 21, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Juniata Valley Chapel, 412
Main St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Sharon L. Landis officiating.
Interment will be private. 

Charles H. BARTO, 60, 3965 Tadpole Road, Pennsylvania Furnace, died
Wednesday, April 18, 2001, following a brief illness. Born December 12,
1940, in Pennsylvania Furnace, he was the son of David H. and Madaline
(Noll) Barto. Surving are his parents; two brothers, Paul E. Barto,
Warriors Mark and Donald L. Barto, Pennsylvania Furnace; two sisters,
Mrs. Joe (Elsie) Sherwood, Rochester, N.Y. and Mrs. Dean (Helen) Knepp,
Tyrone. Also surviving are several neices, nephews, great-neices and
great-nephews. Mr. Barto was a 1960 graduate of State College Area High
School. He enjoyed antiques, flea markets, crafts and playing Bingo
around the area. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April
23, at the Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, Warriors Mark, with the Pastor Roy
S. Garthwaite officiating. Interment will be in Gatesburg Cemetery,
Gatesburg. 

Anna Mae FISHER, 88, of Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon, formerly of
Petersburg Pike, Huntingdon, and Mill Creek, died at 1:13 p.m. Thursday,
April 19, 2001, at Huntingdon Manor. Born Jan. 8, 1913, in
McConnellstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Pearl
(Merritts) Wasson. She married Fred 0. Fisher Dec. 31. 1930. Mr. Fisher
preceded her in death Jan. 11, 1973. Surviving are the following
children; Mrs. Marie C. Galloway, Mill Creek; Fred 0. Fisher Jr., Akron,
Ohio; Glenn W. Fisher, Akron, Ohio; Melvin E. Fisher, Mill Creek; Mrs.
Kenneth (Marcella) Dysard, Mill Creek; Mrs. Richard (Susan) Bookwalter,
Mapleton; Harry H. Fisher, Mount Union; William C. Fisher, Huntingdon;
Deborah L. Fisher, Mill Creek; and Mrs. James (Skeeter) Russler,
Petersburg, R.R. 1. Also surviving are two brothers, Warren Wasson,
Akron, Ohio; and Glenn Wasson, Talmadge, Ohio; and one sister, Phyllis
Hanks, Hesston, 38 granchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and seven
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald
Fisher; a brother, Samuel Wasson and two great-grandchildren. Mrs.
Fisher had been a member of the Auxiliary of the Loyal Order of the
Moose Lodge 223, Huntingdon, Standing Stone VFW Post 1754, Huntingdon
and the Frank P. Hommon Post 24 of the American Legion. During her
lifetime Mrs. Fisher was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at
11 a.m. Monday, April 23, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home,
Huntingdon, with Capt. Wendy Hart officiating. Interment will be in
Mountainview Cemetery, Mill Creek.

Genevieve R. MAGNUSSEN, 89, who resided with her daughter at 3193
Arrowhead Court, Woodbridge, VA and formerly of McVeytown RD1, died at
6:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the Inova Fairfax Hospital,
Fairfax, VA. Born March 24, 1912, in Claysburg, she was a daughter of
the late Edgar and Lilly Mary Randolph. She was preceded in death on
Jan. 3, 1991, by her husband, Birger Magnussen, whom she married on Oct.
10, 1936, in New York, NY. Surviving are: a daughter, Linda Magnussen
Mino, Woodbridge, VA; a sister, Dorothy Zilinkis, Key Capri, FL; a
brother, Johnny Randolph, Mill Creek; and five grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by a son, Iver Magnussen and brothers and sisters,
Evelyn Fagan, Mildred Suchin, Carl Randolph and Virginia Randolph. She
attended the Mount Union Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Robert D.
Health Funeral Home, 61 E. Shirley St., Mount Union, with Pastor William
Wollett officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Union Cemetery. 

Bonita G. "Bonny" (Givens) MORNINGSTAR, 69, of James Creek R.D. 1,
formerly of Londonderry Township, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at
Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. Born Aug. 18, 1932, in Harrisburg, she
was the daughter of William H. and Mary L. (Hipple) Givens. Her father
preceded her in death and her mother survives at Lower Swatara Township.
Also surviving are her husband, Robert L. Morningstar, two sons and a
daughter: W. Victor Morningstar of Bremerton, Wash., Scott R.
Morningstar of Omak, Wash., and Bonnie Lee Guzzo of Londonderry
Township. There are six grandchildren. One sister, Joan L. Givens of
Lower Swatara Township, survives. Mrs. Morningstar was a former owner of
a retail clothing and make- up business and ran a small craft shop in
Hummelstown. She was a member of the Woodcock Valley Bible Church in
James Creek and a former member of the Royalton Emmanuel United
Methodist Church. She served as, past noble grand and district deputy of
Red Rose Rebekah Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows; was past
president of the Rebekah Assembly; former staff member and international
staff member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows; and was a member of
the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 332, Middletown. Funeral services
will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday April 25 at the Frank E. Matinchek and
Daughter Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Middletown, and at 2 p.m.
Thursday in her church, with the Rev. Buddy Baird officiating. Interment
will be made in the Russellville Cemetery, James Creek. 

Marguerite L. POSLUSZNY, 80, of Lafayette Hill, died Saturday, April 21,
2001, at Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia. Born July 1, 1920, in
Patton, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Blanche (Harnish)
Lamison. She married Raymond Posluszny, who survives at home. In
addition to her husband, she is survived by two grandchildren and one
great-grandson. One son, Alexander Posluszny, preceded her in death. She
is survived by a brother, Robert Lamison of McConnellsburg, and a
sister, Siox L. Craft, Purcellville, Va. Mrs. Posluszny was a homemaker.
Private funeral services will be held at the conveniene of the family. 

Lorma Geraldine BOOZEL, 66, of Lucy Furnace Road, Mount Union, died at
3:36 a.m. Monday, April, 23, 2001, at her home. Born May l9, 1934, in
Blacklog Valley, Lack Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of
the late William and Myrtle (Kelly) Krause. She was preceded in death by
her first husband, Cloyd I. Hoffman, and her second husband, Theodore E.
Boozel, whom she married Oct. 21, 1977, survives. Also surviving are:
three children, Boyd Hoffman and Brian Hoffman, both of Orbisonia, and
Carol Weaver, Mount Union; three stepsons, Theodore Boozel, Robert
Boozel, and Dennis Boozel, all of Mount Union; two brothers and four
sisters, Richard Krause and Boyd Krause, both of Orbisonia, Irene Glunt
and Vielda Seibert, both of Shade Gap, Ruth Parsons and Dorothy Hoffman,
both of Neelyton; six grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by one son, Cloyd and three sisters, Evelyn Laidig, Helen Holden,
and Olive Krause. She was a member of the Orbisonia Church of the
Nazarene. She was last employed at the Harbison-Walker Refractories,
Mount Union. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Martin R.
Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Richard Vandervort and the
Rev. Darrell Nicklow officiating. Interment will be made in Haven Rest
Memorial Park, Shirleysburg. 

V. Frank BROWN, 73, of R.D. 1, Box 428 A, Huntingdon, died Sunday, April
22, 2001, at 1:26 p.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.
Born Oct. 4, 1927, in Juniata Township, Huntingdon County, he was the
son of the late Orin G. and Gertrude (Rinker) Brown. He is survived by
the following children: Frank 0. Brown, Ft. Worth, Texas; James L.
Brown, Huntingdon, R.D. 3; V. Fred Brown, Dudley; Francine M. Alessi,
Norristown; and Esther J. Kessler, Pottstown. There are 12 grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren. Two siblings, Betty Miller of Jamesburg,
N.J., and Donna Mould of Orlando, Fla., survive. Mr. Brown was a member
of BPOE Lodge No. 976, Huntingdon; Standing Stone Post 1754, VFW,
Huntingdon, and the McConnellsburg American Legion. After retiring from
Wilson's Trucking, he was owner/operator of Brownie's Trucking and
Excavating in Mapleton. k.D. He also owned and operated Brownie's Bar in

Mertie S. BLACK, 79, formerly of Rockhill Furnace, died at 7:15 p.m.
Monday, April 23, 2001, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. Born
Feb. 1, 1922, in Three Springs, she was the daughter of the late Wilson
C. and Susie L. (Wilson) Hampson. She was married to Wade R. Black Nov.
19, 1948, in Williamsport, Md. Mr. Black preceded her in death Feb. 20,
1987. Surviving are two children: Larry Clark of Rockhill Furnace and
Michael Black of Orbisonia. There are three grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. One son, Robert L. "Bobby" Clark, is deceased. Two
sisters, Zena Hackenberg of Three Springs and Barbara Crum of
Philadelphia, survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two
sisters: Robert Hampson, Jack Hampson, Kay Matthews and Ruth Hampson.
Mrs. Black attended the Rockhill Church of the Brethren. She was a life
member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Madden-Wennick Post 518, American,
Legion, Rockhill Furnace. She was primarily a homemaker. Private funeral
services will be held at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, at
the convenience of the family. Interment will be made in the Haven Rest
Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, R.D. 

Maude H. CORNPROPST, 94, formerly of 405 Moore St., Huntingdon, died
Monday, April 23, 2001, at 8:35 a.m., at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home,
Bedford, where had been a resident. Born Nov. 6, 1906, in Huntingdon,
she was the daughter of the late Robert and Cora (Livingston) Hammers.
She married Robert L. Conpropst Sr. Feb. 10, 1944, in Baltimore, Md. He
preceded her in death April 18, 1963. Surviving are four sisters: Mary
Long of Huntingdon, Jeannette Hammers and Genevieve Giornesto, both of
Bedford, and Maxine Sheaffer of Harrisburg. One brother, James Hammers,
and a sister, Frances Long, are deceased. Mrs. Conpropst was a member of
the First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. She was a life member of
the ladies auxiliary of the Huntingdon Hook and Ladder Fire Company;
Women of the Moose Chapter 220; life member of the Textile Workers of
America; and Standing Stone Senior Citizens. For 21 years, she was
employed by the Susquehanna Silk Mill in Huntingdon and for 28 years
worked with its successor, Owens Corning Fiberglas. She retired in 1971
from the forming department. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May
20, at 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, Fifth and Mifflin
streets, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Doyle Klinger officiating. Interment
will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. 

Helen M. METZ, 91, a resident of Valley View Retirement Home, 4702 E.
Main St., Belleville, formerly of 65 River Corner Road, Conestoga, died
Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at the home. Born Oct. 8, 1909, in Port Royal,
she was the daughter of the late Aquilla and Blance Meminger. Her
husband, John B. Metz, died in 1999. She is survived by daughters, Mrs.
Larry (Peggy) Schlegelmilch, Conestoga and Mrs. Barry (Judy) Charles,
Petersburg; three grandsons and two great-granddaughters. She was a
graduate of Lancaster Business School. She was a housewife. She was a
member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lancaster and a former member of the
Women's Circle of the church. She was also a member of the Farm Women's
Society No. 25. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace
Lutheran Church, corner of North Queen and James streets, Lancaster,
with the Rev. E. W. Huston officiating. Interment will be in Conestoga
Memorial Park. 

Kenneth E. WILLIAMS, 47, of Box 52-A., R.D. 1, Shirleysburg, died at
home Monday evening, April 23, 2001. His death was unexpected. Born
Sept. 10, 1953, in Mount Union, he was the son of the Betty L. (Uttley)
Williams Norris of Mount Union, R.R. 1, and the late Sherman G.
Williams. He married Polly Jo Book June 6, 1993, at Singer's Gap United
Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rich Morris officiating. Mrs. Williams
survives at home, along with the following children: Laura D. Patterson,
Melanie R. Patterson and Samuel J. Williams, all at home; James
Williams, Cleveland, Ohio; Randall Wilson of Mount Union; and Jeremy C.
Moore, Rockhill Furnace. There are five grandchildren. The following
brothers and sisters also survive: Andrew Williams, Huntingdon; Emma
Worthy, Mount Union; Rex Williams, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Cynthia Pollard,
Bradenton, Fla.; Dana Williams, Mount Union; and Mark Williams, Todd.
Mr. Williams was of the Protestant faith. A 1971 graduate of Mount Union
Area High School, he was employed at Steve's Used Auto Parts in Shade
Gap. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was an avid gun collector and
enjoyed reloading. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday,
April 27, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the
Rev. James MacQuarrie officiating. Interment will be made in the IOOF
Cemetery, Rockhill Furnace. 

David H. YOUNG, 79, formerly of Valley Road, Wells Tannery, more
recently of the Blair Christian Home, Duncansville, died at 11:26 p.m.
Monday, April 23, 2001, at the James E. VanZandt Medical Center,
Altoona. Born Nov. 27, 1921, in Wood Township, Huntingdon County, he was
a son of the late Frank S. and Edna (Dean) Young. He married Florence
Ford, who survives at the Blair Christian Home in Duncansville.
Surviving are the following siblings: Helen Waltz, Elizabethtown;
Madeline Medick, Kennett Square; Anna Fleck, Three Springs, R.D.;
Florence McCoy, Mount Union, R.D.; Delores Curfman, Freeport; Joanne
March, Shirleysburg; Jack Young, Portland, Ore.; and Sarah Barnett,
Wells Tannery. Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr.
Young was of the Protestant faith. He was employed as a steel worker in
Pittsburgh. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the M.R. Brown
Funeral Home, Hustontown, with the Rev. Carl Curfman officiating.
Interment will be made in the Wells Tannery Presbyterian Cemetery, Wells
Tannery, R.D. 

Virginia M. GUTSHALL, 76, Orbisonia, died at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday, April
25, 2001 at home. She was born March 1, 1925 in Orbisonia. She attended
Orbisonia Assembly of God Church. She retired from Owens-Corning
Fiberglass in Huntingdon. She married Vaughn R. Gutshall on July 11,
1940 in Hagerstown. He died on December 19, 1988. A grandson also
preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons: Arnold V. “Buzz” of Three
Springs and David R., Orbisonia; two daughters: Ella V. James, Rawlings,
MD and Patricia A. Jenkins, Three Springs; five grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren. Services were private and burial was made in
Orbisonia Cemetery. 

Helen M. HORNE, 46, Orbisona, died Tuesday evening, April 24, 2001 in a
traffic accident on U.S. 522 in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County
near Orbisonia. Born October 19, 1954 in Fort Kent, Maine, she was a
daughter of Alberien and Adelle Saucier Ouellette of Fort Kent. She
attended Church of God of Prophecy, Shirleysburg and was active in
church functions. She worked for the past 2 1/2 years at F.C.I.
Electronics, Mount Union. She married Carl P. Horne on February 12, 2000
in Mount Union. Besides her husband, surviving are four children:
Christy Barron, Rockhill Furnace; Katie Kuckenbrod and Sara Kuckenbrod,
both of Orbisonia and April Kuckenbrod, Camp Hill; three sisters:
Barbara Boucher and Esther Boucher, both of Southington, Conn., and
Betty Pelletiere of Collinsville, Conn.; two step-children, Carl P.
Horne Jr., Mount Union, and Cathy Horne of Rockhill; and a brother,
Harold Ouellette of Middletown. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday,
April 29 in the Church of God of Prophecy. Pastor Richard Sauls
officiated. Burial was made in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg. 

Russell E. HORNE, 65, Shirleysburg, formerly of Mount Union, died
Tuesday, April 24, 2001 in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, from
injuries sustained in an auto accident. Born December 8, 1935 in Shade
Gap, he was the son of the late Richard P. and Mary S. (McMullen) Horne.
He was united in marriage to Shirley (Miller) Sunderland in November
1984. She died in the same accident April 24. Surviving are three
children: Troy A. Sunderland, Shirleysburg; Tamara L. “Tammy” Zeilinger,
Three Springs and Trudy A. Woods, Mount Union and six grandchildren; six
brothers: Clarence Horne, Phila-delpiha; Clyde Horne, Cassville; Raymond
Horne, Shirleysburg; Donald Horne, Mount Union; Norman Horne, Mount
Union and Earl Horne, Shirleysburg. He was preceded in death by the
following brothers and sisters: Stella Scott, Lena Shields, Charles
Horne and Chester Horne. He attended the Orbisonia schools and retired
as a lineman from Sprint, formerly United Telephone in Mifflintown,
after 25 years of service. He attended the New Life Fellowship Church,
Mount Union. He and his wife were actively involved in leading a program
of worship for Sunday services at the Meadowview Manor, McVeytown.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28 at the New
Life Fellowship Church, Mount Union. Rev. Dayton Sines, Rev. Lenora
Carter and Rev. Richard Sauls officiated. Burial was made in the Haven
Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg. 

Shirley A. HORNE, 60, Shirleysburg, formerly of Mount Union, died
Tuesday, April 24, 2001 in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, from
injuries received in an auto accident. Born August 2, 1940 in Newton
Hamilton, she was the daughter of the late Gladys A. (Miller) Miller and
Elmer Forest Miller, who is a resident of Huntingdon Manor. She was
first married to Lee M. Sunderland November 26, 1960. He preceded her in
death July 28, 1976. Her second marriage was to Russell R. Horne in
November 1984. He died in the same accident April 24. Surviving are
three children: Troy A. Sunderland, Shirleysburg; Tamara L. “Tammy”
Zeilinger, Three Springs and Trudy A. Woods, Mount Union; six
grandchildren; a brother, Douglas D. Miller of Andover, NY. She was a
graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mount Union. She was primarily a
homemaker and attended the New Life Fellowship Church, Mount Union. Both
she and her husband were actively involved in leading a program of
worship for Sunday services at Meadowview Manor, McVeytown. Funeral
services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28 at the New Life
Fellowship Church, Mount Union. Rev. Dayton Sines, Rev. Lenora Carter
and Rev. Richard Sauls officiated. Burial was made in the Haven Rest
Memorial Park, Shirleysburg. 

Ralph V. BARNETT, 85, of Wadsworth, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 25,
2001, at Wadsworth - Rittman Hospital, following a brief illness. Born
in Saxton, Mr. Barnett resided in Wadsworth for the past 54 years. He is
survived by his wife of 59 years, Pauline H. Barnett, and a daughter,
Mrs. Mike (Judi) Esterle, and a grandson, all of Akron, Ohio. One
brother, Charles Barnett of Martinsburg, also survives. Three sisters
are deceased. Mr. Barnett was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving
during World War II. He later worked as a stationary engineer for
Goodyear, retiring in 1981, after 7/2 years of service. He was a member
of the Trinity United Church of Christ; VFW Post No., 1089; American
Legion Post No. 170; the Cribbage Club and the Bridge Club at the Center
for Older Adults, all in Wadsworth. Funeral services will be held
Saturday, April 28, at 11 a.m., at the Hilliard and Mullaney Funeral
Home, Inc., Wadsworth, with the Rev. Jonathan A. Knight officiating.
Interment will be made at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, in Orbisona. 

George A. "Pauncho" BENNETT, 70, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center for the past two and one-half years, formerly
of 330 Carlton Ave., Chambersburg, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at
Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 4, 1930, in Fredericktown, he was the
son of the late Paul and Margaret Bennett. He married Patricia Rhodes
March 14, 1962. Surviving, along with his wife, are four daughters:
Patricia Cable Robinson, New Cumberland; Nancy J. Cable Monn and
Christine B. Rogers, both of Chambersburg; and Margaret P. Lynerd of
Greencastle. There are eight grandchildren. Five brothers and a sister
survive: Harold Bennett, Fayetteville; John Bennett, Richard Bennett and
Gene Bennett, all of Three Springs; Dugan Bennett, Huntingdon; and Mrs.
Russell (Betty) Brown, Chambersburg. One sister, Faith Gephart, and a
brother, Paul Bennett, preceded him in death. Mr. Bennett served in the
U.S. Marines and was a self-employed truck driver until his illness.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home,
Chambersburg, with the Revs. Linda and William Harter officiating.
Interment was made in Lincoln Cemetery. 

Esther B. SHAW, 68, of HCR 61, Box 85, Blairs Mills, died Wednesday,
April 25, 2001, at 11:20 a.m., at Harrisburg Hospital. Born Sept. 8,
1932, in Richvale, she was the daughter of the late H. Lehman and Thelma
1. (Neidigh) Book. She married Harold W. Shaw Feb.25, 1960. Mr. Shaw
survives at home, along with two children: Mrs. Randy (Lori S.)
Greenland of Dry Run and Curtis H. Shaw, Blairs Mills. There is one
grandson. Also surviving is a brother, Harold N. Book of Blairs Mills
and several nieces and nephews. A 1950 graduate of the former Orbisonia
High School, Mrs. Shaw was a homemaker. At one time, she had been
employed by the H.J. Heinz Company, former Stanley Company and the
dietary department of Wilson College, all in Chambersburg. She was a
member of the Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, where she had served
as the church pianist and taught Sunday School. She also served as
treasurer and pianist of, the Sunday School and was a member of the
Women's Missionary Association at the church. Mrs. Shaw was a member of
the Woodland Retirement Center Auxiliary, Orbisonia; Shade Gap Area
Volunteer Fire Company, Shade Gap; life member of the Shade Gap Area
Fire Company Auxiliary; and a charter member of the Tuscarora Grange No.
2042, Shade Gap. Funeral services will be held at the Upper Tuscarora
Presbyterian Church, Waterloo, Sunday, April 29, at 2 p.m., with the
Rev. Alice M. Meloy, the Rev. Clyde Brown and the Rev. Harry Ferguson
officiating. Interment will be made in the Richvale Cemetery. 

Mary Alice HARCLERODE, 77, of Altoona, formerly of Everett. died April
26, 2001, at in the Valley View Nursing Home, Altoona. Born March 24,
1924, in Six Mile Run, she was the daughter of the late J. Frank and Ada
(Hess) Satterfield. She married Kenton Z. Harclerode Sr. Nov. 12, 1954,
in Everett. Mr. Harelerode survives at home, along with the following
children: Donna Mae Darr, Lindenwood, N.J.; Mrs. Richard (Bonnie) Steel,
Everett; Mrs. James (Betty Sue) Moore, Pfluterville, Texas; K. Zane
Harclerode Jr., Shermansdale; David W. Harclerode, Altoona; and Steven
Harclerode, Jackson, N.J. There are six grandchildren, two
step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One sister, Margaret
Hollingshead of Beaver, survives. She was preceded in death by three
brothers and a sister: Clair, Darryl, James and Hazel. Mrs. Harclerode
was a member of the Everett Church of the Brethren, where she was a
former member of the church choir, Ladies Aid and served as custodian. A
1942 graduate of Broad Top High School, she had been employed in the
obstetrics department of the former Bedford County Memorial Hospital for
20 years. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 30, at 11 a.m., in
the Everett Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Lowell Witkovsky and
the Rev. E. Paul Weaver officiating. Interment will be made in the
Everett Cemetery. 

Robert M. BAKER, 71, of 421 Moore Street, Huntingdon, died at 6:10 p.m.
Thursday, April 26, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon,
after a courageous fight with cancer. Born April 30, 1929, in
Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Glenn Marlin and Gertrude Marie
(Corbin) Baker. He was married to the former Charlotte L. Hetrick June
23, 195 1, at the bride's family home in Huntingdon, by the Rev. Marlin
C, Bottinger. Surviving are his wife, at their home, and two daughters,
Mrs. John (Janis E.) Thatcher, Huntingdon and Lisa Ayn Baker, Lancaster.
He is also survived by four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
one son, Robert M. Baker Jr. and one brother, Wilmer D. Baker. Mr. Baker
was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. He had
worked with his father at the family business, Glenn M. Baker Plumbing
and Heating for 25 years prior to his union job with Local 354, Plumbers
& Pipefitters, where he retired in 1991. Mr. Baker was an avid stock car
enthusiast. He was well-known as a driver and later built stock cars for
local drivers at Hesston Speedway. He also enjoyed restoring old cars.
He was a 1949 graduate of Huntingdon High school and was a life- time
resident of Huntingdon County and had been at his Moore Street home
since 1962. Private funeral services will be held at the Cutright-Speck
Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Road, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Doyle H. Klinger
Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. 

Lorna F. ROSS, 90, of The Oaks, Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, and
formerly of 914 Mifflin Street and the DeForrest Apartments, Huntingdon,
died at 2:50 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, at Westminster Woods. Born
Feb. 9, 1911, in South Fork, she was the daughter of the late John H.
and Myrtle Jane (Powell) Allenbaugh. She was married to Edgar Joseph
Ross June 22, 1929, in Hagerstown, Md., by the Rev. R. L. Mobray. Mr.
Ross preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1982. Surviving are one daughter,
Dolores C. Shriner, McConnellstown and one son, Kevin L. Ross,
Huntingdon. Also surviving are four grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, John Joseph
Ross; one daughter, Hazel Ruth Ross; one brother, Homer J. Allenbaugh;
one sister, Hazel Sponeybarger; one step-sister, Helen States and one
grandson. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Ross was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church,
Huntingdon. At one time she had worked at the Susquehanna Silk Mill and
in the twist and ply department at Owens-Corning Fiberglas in
Huntingdon. Since then she was primarily a homemaker. Funeral Services
will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral
Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. James L. Blair officiating. Interment
will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg. 

John E. SHIROKEY, 74, of Jay, N.Y., died Monday, April 9, 2001, at
Saratoga Hospital. Born in Morrisdale, he was the son of the late Walter
and Mary (Susko) Shirokey. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49
years, the former Margaret Oswalt, in 1994. He is survived by three sons
and two daughters: John E. Shirokey Jr., Altamont, N.Y.; Nicholas
Shirokey of Schenectady, N.Y.; Joseph Shirokey of Scotia, N.Y.; Sandra
Hutchins of Virginia and Mary Traux of Glenville, N.Y. There are 25
grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Three brothers and five
sisters also survive: Joseph Shirokey, Port Richey, Fla.; Alexander
Shirokey, DuBois; Nicholas Shirokey, Morrisdale; Martha Allgood,
Brierfield, Ala.; Velma Glenn, Theresa Shirokey and Jean Kurtz, all of
Huntingdon; and Mildred Kasubick, Houtzdale. Two brothers and four
sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Shirokey moved to Jay, N.Y., from
Schenectady, N.Y., in 1974. He was a foundry worker at the General
Electric Company for 17 years, retiring in 1965, due to disability.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe. He was a
member of the Lake Placid Rod and Gun Club and taught a hunter safety
class in Lake Placid. He was of the Catholic faith. Funeral services
were held in Scotia, N.Y. Interment was made in Memory's Garden in
Colonie, N.Y. 

Samuel Lee BOOHER, 65, of Hopewell Township, died unexpectedly Saturday,
April 28, 2001, in J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. 
Born May 18, 1935, in Mount Union, he was the son of Anna Booher of
Mount Union and the late Elmer Booher. 
Surviving are his wife, of 34 years, the former Grace L. Jones, and two
sons, Roger Booher of Beaver and Roy Booher, at home. There is one
grandson. 
One brother and two sisters also survive: Wilbur Booher of Mount Union,
Connie Smith of McVeytown and Vonnie Orlowski of Mount Union. There are
numerous aunts, uncles nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Emmett Booher. 
Mr. Booher was a graduate of Mount Union High School and was a retired
employee of the tin mill of LTV Steel-Aliquippa Works. 
He was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Hopewell VFW
Post 8805. He was also an avid golfer. 
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 1, at noon, at the Wayne N.
Tatalovich Funeral Home, 2205 McMinn St., Aliquippa.
Interment will be made in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Aliquippa. 

Charles "Chuck" GIORNESTO Jr. 76, of Cumberland, Md., diej Thursday,
April 26, 2001, at his home. 
Born Jan. 8, 1925, in Broad Top City, he was the son of the late Charles
A. and Frances Mary (Palermo) Giornesto. He married Doris Martin, who
survives at home, along with three brothers: Sam Giornesto, Bedford;
Kenneth K. Giornesto and Guy C. Giornesto, both of Saxton. Also
surviving are three sisters: Mrs.William (Josephine K.) Kelly, Saxton;
Mary Charlotte Neamtz, Camp Hill; and DoRee F. Kifer, Los Gatus, Calif. 
Mr. Giornesto was a graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School and he
attended Juniata College. In 1949, he became general manager of a
Dodge-Plymouth automobile franchise in Saxton, which was owned by his
family. In 1961, Mr. Giornesto purchased Kitzmiller Memorial in
Cumberland, Md., which he owned and operated until 1969. Upon selling
his business, he obtained a real estate broker's license and became the
owner and operator of  Giornesto-Jenkins Agency. He was also associated
with the Charles Giornesto and Sons Realty Company, Inc., in Saxton. 
A member of the Cumberland Board of Realtors, he served as the
organization's president and board member, He was a member of the
Maryland State Real Estate Board, where he served as a past state
director. He was also a member of the National Real Estate Board of
Realtors. 
Mr. Giornesto was a also president and general manager of O&S Motors in
Cumberland and the owner and operator of Giornesto Chevrolet and
Oldsmobile in Keyser, W.Va. While in the automobile business, he was a
member of the Pennsylvania and West Virginia Automobile Association. 
He attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cumberland, Md., and Southwest
Community Church in Bermuda Dunes, Calif. He had been a member of the
Allegany County Chamber of Commerce, the Cumberland Rotary Club, the
Bedford Elks Club, Appalachia Health Planning Council, York Pointers and
Setters Club, a life member of the Saxton Volunteer Fire Company, Saxton
Lions Club, Saxton Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Huntingdon American
Legion. 
An avid golfer, Mr. Giornesto was a member of the Cumberland Country
Club, where he served on the board of directors: He was also a trainer
of Bird Dogs and served as, a field judge in Bird Dog competitions. 
A memorial service was held at the Scarpelli Funeral Home in Cumberland,

Andrew Harry LANGE, 41, of 253 Chilcote Hollow Road, Huntingdon,
formerly of Landenberg, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at 2:30 p.m., at
his residence. 
Born Feb. 17, 1960, in Media, Delaware County, he was the son of the
late Joseph Alexander and B. Lorraine (Mills) Lange. 
He is survived by two sisters and a brother: James Richard Lange of
Neenah, Wis.; Virginia Marie Weston of Seattle, Wash.; and Marjorie
Ellen Mundy, Wilmington, Del. 
Mr. Lange was employed as a fire safety technician since June 1999 with
D.C. Goodman and Sons, Inc., Huntingdon. He previously worked for Bear
Industries of Newark, Del, for 15 years. 
A 1978 graduate of Avon Grove High School, he served in the U.S. Navy
from 1978 until 1982. He attained the rank of Gunner's Mate First Class
and served aboard the USS Flint in the Pacific Theater. 
He was a member of the North American Hunting Club and the National
Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a collector of
weaponry and a skilled nature photographer. 
He had been a resident of Huntingdon County since 1999. 
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. 
Interment will be made in the Kemblesville Methodist Cemetery,
Kemblesville. 

Robert M. MILLER, 81, of 14 Morning Glory Lane, Manheim, died Monday,
April 16, 2001, in Hospice of Lancaster County, Lancaster. 
Born Dec. 13, 1919, in Huntingdon, he married Dorothy Miller, who
survives at home. 
Also surviving are two daughters: Trudy Corr of Ohio and Lynn Yost of
Etters. A stepson, Glenn E. Burkey of California, and a step- daughter,
Dolores Maxey of Lancaster survive. There are four grandchildren, three
step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. 
One brother, Blair Miller of New Oxford, also survives. 
Mr. Miller had been reared in Huntiqgdon from 1919 until 1938. 
He had been an employee of the U.S. Geological Survey. During World War
II, he served in the U.S. Army and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. 
He was a member of the Glossbrenner United Methodist Church, Mount Joy. 
Funeral services will he held Saturday, May 5, at his church. 
Interment will be private at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. 

John E. WAGNER Sr., 66, of McConnellsburg, died Monday, April 30, 2001,
at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg. 
Born April 24, 1935, in Springfield Township, Huntingdon County, he was
a son of the late Bert A. and Irene E. (Lyter) Wagner. 
He is survived by six children: John E. Wagner Jr., McVeytown; Nancy J.
Clark, Orbisonia; Tim F. Wagner, Hustontown; Cheryl L. Bair,
McConnellsburg; Tammy R. Camarota, Dayton, Ohio; and Karen J. Emery, HCR
60, Orbisonia. There are 11 grandchildren and. six great- grandchildren. 
One sister, Goldie Stains of Harrisonville, R.D., survives. 
Mr. Wagner had been employed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission until
retiring on disability. 
Private graveside services will be held at the Saltillo Cemetery at the
convenience of the family. 

Mervin S. "Bucky" BUCHANAN, 80, of 119 Sunset Drive, Burnham, died at
5:55 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2001, at Valley View Haven, Belleville.
Born March 9, 1921, in South Fork, he was the son of the late Edward G.
and Myrtle (Mangus) Buchanan. His wife, Betty (Bishop) Buchanan, whom he
married July 16, 1943, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Gary Lee Buchanan, Warrenton, Va., Mrs.
John (Dolly) Houtz, McVeytown, George H. Buchanan, 514 Dry Valley Road,
Lewistown; a grandson, whom he helped to raise, Todd S. Buchanan,
Reedsville; brother and sisters, Warren Buchanan, Belleville, Ruth Best,
York, Myrtle Noon, McAlevy's Fort, and Mrs. Alfred (Betty) Hawn,
Petersburg; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mervin Buchanan Jr. on June 2, 1967,
four brothers and one sister.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
He retired in 1982 from Standard Steel with 18 years of service as a
furnace operator.
He was Presbyterian by faith.
He served as Burnham Borough Councilman for eight years, was a stock car
driver and charter member of the Penn Central Racing Association, having
served as vice president. He was also a member of the Lewistown Chapter
UCT and the Burnham Lions Club.
He raced at Port Royal Speedway for 10 years and at Snowshoe Raceway.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham
Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Galen Sharp
officiating. 
Interment will be in St. Mark's Cemetery, where graveside military
honors will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.

Virgil M. "Scotty" SCOTT, 53, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla, died at his
home Monday, April 23, 2001. His death was due to cancer. 
Born Feb. 25, 1948, he was the son of the late Arthur Scott and Eula
Scott, who survives in Bridge Creek, Holmes County, Fla. He was reared
and attended school in Defuniak Springs, Walton County, Fla. 
He is survived by his wife, the former Esther Clippinger of Three
Springs, one daughter and two sons: Renee Delp of Topeka, Kan.; Artie
Scott and David Scott, both of' Rapid City, S.C. There are three
granddaughters. 
Four sisters and a brother survive: Mrs. Ben (Euris) Young, Mrs. Steve
(Annece) Jones and Clairece Wright, all of Bridge Creek; Mary Scott of
Santa Rosa Beach; and R.O. Scott, also of Santa Rosa Beach. 
There are several nieces and nephews. 
Mr.Scott served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1987. 
He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach and
served as a volunteer at the Fort Walton Health and Rehabilitation
Nursing Home. He joined the Cinco Baptist Church Group as they
ministered in music at local nursing homes. 
His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. His last request was to
go fishing, which he did April 20. 
Funeral services were held in Florida.
