Fred Bard, 88, formerly of the Newton Hamilton area, and a resident of Valley View, Belleville, for the past six weeks, went to be with the Lord at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Valley View. The funeral service was held Feb. 21 at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. Pastor Jeff Winstead officiated and interment was made in the Newton Hamilton Memorial Cemetery. Born Oct. 20, 1916, in Germany Valley, he was the son of the late Herman and Nellie (Lane) Bard. He was married to Barbara Rogers Bard on June 22, 1940, and she preceded him in death on April 23, 1978. He was then married to Helen (Brownwell) Love Bard on May 30, 1980, and she preceded him in death on June 2, 2003. Surviving are the following stepchildren: Francis (Annie) Bowser of Newton Hamilton, Janice (Jennie) Lane and husband Ronald of Donation, Bonnie Blair and husband Ronald of Mount Union, Sandra Hunter and husband James of Lititz, Mary Becky of Port Orange, Fla. Sally Yoder and husband Dennis of Allensville, Donald Love and wife Natalie of Star Route Huntingdon, and Patricia Bard and husband Sheldon (Turk) of Erlanger, Ken. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren: many great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Craig of Newton Hamilton; a cousin Thomas Bard of Clyde, Ohio, who was raised in the home; five nieces and five nephews. Mr. Bard graduated from Mount Union High School in the Class of 1935. While in high school, he played football and participated in school plays. Most of his life he spent primarily in farming, both in Mifflin and Huntingdon counties. He also worked at Albert Bowser Refuse, Newton Hamilton, for many years and had previously worked for one of the Mount Union brickyards. Mr. Bard was a member of the Cedar Crest Independent Baptist Church, RD Mount Union. He was a quiet, gentle, patient man, loved by all who had the honor of knowing him.
