He was standing on a cap log of the trestling at the East end when he overbalanced himself and fell headlong to the river below, a distance of 35 feet. In the fall, his head struck on the stone pier and the concussion crushed the skull besides producing some scalp wounds. His spine was also injured. Daily Herald, Tyrone, Pa., August 30, 1888
