Cialone Anthony "Tony" Joseph Cialone, 31, of 17710 Croghan Pike, Shirleysburg, died at 2:06 a.m., on Monday, February 11, at his home, following a brief illness. Funeral Mass was held on Friday, February 15 at the St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union, with Father George Koharchik officiating. Interment was in the Shope Cemetery, Blacklog Valley. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. He was born on October 23, 1926, in Huntingdon and he was the son of the late Fred and Antonietta (Cupillari) Cialone. He was united in marriage to Adeline (Zinobile) Cialone on June 12, 1954, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Shade Gap, by Father Golias. His wife survives, along with their daughter, Angelina Cialone Kershaw, and husband, Craig Michael, of Eldersburg, MD. Also surviving are two grandchildren: Laura Ann Kershaw, currently at Virginia Tech University and Michael Robert Kershaw, at home. Mr. Cialone is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Leo Cialone and wife, Phyllis of Dearborn, MI; Robert Cialone of Robertsdale; Richard Cialone and wife, Barbara of Dearborn, MI; Zeda Perta and husband, Mike, of Livonia, MI; Jean Cialone of Dearborn, MI and Ann Lou Starzyk of Madison Heights, MI. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Fred Anthony and a son Fred Michael. Mr. Cialone attended the Robertsdale High School and following high school he enlisted in the Merchant Marines, in which he served from 1943 until 1945. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army infantry from 1951 until 1953, having seen action on the front lines in Korea and honorably discharged as a Corporal. Following his wartime service he graduated from the Pittsburgh Barber School. Earlier in his working life, he was employed at Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union; East Broad Top Railroad and Coal Company and did coal mining in Robertsdale. He had also worked a number of years as a Baltimore Life Insurance agent, having earned the distinction as "Top Salesman." He was an outgoing person and enjoyed being with people. He knew most of his many customers by name. He hosted pinochle games with many of the same players every Monday night for over thirty years. He was a past Director of the Huntingdon County. Office of Veterans Affairs. Since 1965, he has owned and operated the former Cialone's Beverage, where his son had managed the business from 1996 until his death in 2001 and its subsequent sale in 2002. Mr. Cialone was well known locally as a barber, having operated Tony's Barber Shop, near Shirleysburg, for many years and up until October, 2007, when his illness prevented him from continuing. Mr. Cialone was a member of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. He was charter member since August 1, 1968 of St. Catherine's of Sicna Council #6106, Knights of Columbus, Mount Union and had held the office of Grand Knight from 1987 until 1991. He was also a charter member of Padre Pio General Assembly #1656, Mount Union, since joining in 1974. He had also held various offices in the Knights organization. He was a member of the Ft. Shirley Lions Club, Shirleysburg and the Madden Wennick American Legion Post 518, Orbisonia. Mr. Cialone had a deep interest for history and especially loved antiques. Also, he was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed hosting and operating a hunting camp for his brothers, other relatives and friends, for most of his adult life.
