ARTHUR BLAIR CONRAD aged 61 years, of Saxton, died instantly, according to Bedford County Coroner Vernon Geisel of Alum Bank. The coroner termed death accidental, and no inquest will be held. During the hunting season last Fall, Conrad used the old model Remington 12- gauge shotgun and it did not work properly. Yesterday forenoon he was engaged at repairing the cleaning the gun on the back porch of his home, and in some manner the gun was discharged, the charge of shot entering the right side of his chest. Cleaning cloths, oil, etc, were alongside the chair which he was seated on the porch. His wife heard the discharge of the gun and on investigation found her husband dead. The gun had been in the family connection for 38 or more years. Arthur Blair Conrad was a son of Jacob and Sarah (Weller) Conrad and was born at Mifflin on March 6, 1893. He was united in marriage to Hettie McKee Hersh on Aug 22, 1912 at Cumberland, Md. Mr. Conrad has been employed as a maintenance repairman at the Pennsylvania Electric Company plant in Saxton since 1933. Besides his wife he is survived by one son A. Blair Conrad of Saxton, he is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Miles Conrad of Everett, Floyd Conrad, John Conrad, Mrs. Bertha Kimes and Mrs. James Dunn, all of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Elsie Harrison of Florida. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at Huff's funeral chapel in Saxton, with the Rev. Charles Collins, pastor of the Saxton Church of God officiating. Interment in the I.O.O.F Cemetery at Saxton. Friends may call at the funeral home until hour of service. _____ CONRAD, Donald, 1965 Huntingdon Daily News Oct 28, 1965 DONALD CONRAD Donald Conrad, 60, a former resident of Huntingdon, residing recently in Washington, D.C., died yesterday Wednesday, October 27, 1965 in Washington, D.C. Born in Huntingdon on December 3, 1904, he was a son of George Homer and Mary Kathryn (Long) Conrad. He was united in marriage to Edna Stewart who preceded him in death. Surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. J. Townsend (Ruth) Lafferty, Woodville; Ira T. Conrad, South 4th Street, Huntingdon; Miss Edna Conrad, Mount Union; Mrs. Paul (Hazel) Schaarschmidt, Mount Union and Fred W. Conrad, Phoenix, Ariz. The deceased was of the Methodist faith. He was veteran of World War II and had served at the Medical Depot at Walterboro, S.C. A painter by trade, Conrad had been a resident of Washington, D. C. for many years. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Brown's funeral services, Huntingdon, have not yet been completed. Complete arrangements will appear in tomorrow's issue of the Daily News. _____ CONRAD, Ira T., 1971 (Huntingdon newspaper clipping) March 17, 1971 IRA T. CONRAD IRA T. CONRAD, 68, of South Fourth Street, Huntingdon died early this morning, Wednesday, March 17, 1971, at 7:45 o'clock in the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for one day. He had been in failing health for several years. Born September 21, 1902, at Huntingdon, he was a son of Homer and Mary Catherine (Long) Conrad. He was united in marriage to Dorothy I. Corbin on August 20, 1945, the ceremony being performed at Tyrone. His wife survives along with one step-son, Robert C. Corbin of Pleasantville, N.J., and two grandchildren. A sister, Miss Edna Conrad of Huntingdon and a brother, Fred Conrad of Phoenix, Ariz., also survive. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death. Conrad was of the Protestant faith. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U. S. Army Engineers and was a life member of Standing Stone Post No.1754, V.F.W. of Huntingdon. He had held several positions during his lifetime until his failing heath forced his retirement. He was a lifelong resident of Huntingdon. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 19, at 2 pm from Brown's funeral home, Huntingdon. The Rev. Walter S. Smith will officiate and interment will be made in Mountain View Cemetery, Mill Creek. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 pm Thursday and until the hour of the services on Friday. _____ CONRAD, John W., Sr., 1967 Huntingdon newspaper JOHN W. CONRAD, SR. John W. Conrad, Sr. of Avalon Rd., Altoona, died in the Veterans Hospital at 5:45 pm Wednesday, June 21, 1967. He was born June 2, 1907, in Warriors Mark, a son of Warren and Mary (Weaver) Conrad, and married Hazel E. McNeal. Surviving are his wife, two sons, John W. Conrad, Jr., at home and C. Neal McGarvey of Ebensburg; three granddaughters, four brothers, Grant W. Conrad of Altoona, Wade W. and Robert W. Conrad of Syracuse, N.Y., and Ray W. Conrad of Honolulu, Hawaii; three sisters, Mrs. Lorraine Gezzer of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Eileen Walters of Monroeville and Mrs. Eleanor Prochazka of Belmar, N.J. Conrad was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, serving in the Army, and a holder of the Commendation Medal. He was a PRR machinist, retired in 1960, served as a substitute teacher in the Altoona Area School District, and was a member of the Juniata Presbyterian Church. _____ CONRAD, Nannie Catherine, 1946 Huntingdon Daily News October 14, 1946 MRS. NANNIE CATHERINE CONRAD Mrs. Nannie Catherine Conrad died early Sunday morning October 13, 1946 at 1:15 o'clock at her late residence in Warriors Mark. The cause of death was angina pectoris. She was born July 1, 1878, at Warriors Mark, a daughter of William Burket and Ellen (Nearhoof) Burket, both deceased. She was united in marriage to William Conrad at Warriors Mark on Nov. 28, 1901. She was a resident of Warriors Mark all her life. Mrs. (Burket) Conrad was a consistent member of the Warriors Mark Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband and five children: Mrs. John Davis of McAlevys Fort; Miss Helen Conrad at home, Lynford Conrad of Spruce Creek; Roy Conrad and Herbert Conrad, both of Warriors Mark. Also surviving are ten grand children, one brother and one sister, Clayton Burket and Mrs. Thomas Gates, both of Warriors Mark; and one half-sister Mrs. Grace Lowe of Tampa, Florida. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, October 16, 1946 at 2:30 pm at Warriors Mark Methodist Church, conducted by her pastor Rev. R. Roland Ritter, assisted by Rev. T. Max Hall. Interment in the Burket Cemetery will be directed by Cox's Funeral Service. Friends may call at the home until hour of the service. _____
